Mystery Noise at 4800 RPM?
A couple of days ago, my 09 250R began making a strange noise. It sounds almost like a faint grinding metal on metal. I first checked the pads, and all was well. So I've been trying to track it down since. So far I've determined the noise only occurs right around 4800RPM. I can hear it at 4800 RPM in all gears, but I can not hear it in neutral. Has anyone had a similar issue or have any ideas?
Thanks! |

If it hadn't began so suddenly then that would probably be the solution. As its only a certain RPM, I'm hoping its just resonance of a loose part or something. I'm planning to change the oil and put on a new right fairing tomorrow, so I'll have a chance to look everything over really good.

The Ninja is a noisy bike with a lot of sounds being "normal sounds" Sounds can be described differently by everyone. A video clip of the sound may help determine what it might be.

check the pin that hold both passenger foot rests. After chopping my fender yesterday and checking that everything turned on correctly I noticed that one of those pins and C clip is loose. It doesn't grind as you describe it but it's a somewhat high pitch metallic rattling noise.

the levers vibrate at certain rpms. my keys also vibrate at certain rpms. recheck the torque on all the bolts on the bike and make sure nothings falling off, then put in some earplugs.

I'll be sure to update the thread if I can get a good recording of the noise. Perhaps this is a good excuse to buy a gopro or contour camera... |
