Question Exhaust Systems

What is the difference between getting just a slip on exhaust or a full system exhaust for my Ninja 250?

And what brands would you recommend? Thanks guys.

What's your favorite exhaust? Vote in the poll

If you're going to spend the dough, might as well spend just a little more for a full system. Not to mention your ninjette will love you for it! I installed a full Yoshi CF exhaust on mine, no regrets at all! Sounds great and a noticeable increase in hp (keep in mind you are re-jetting as well).

David, I MASH on my throttle man. On average I get 40-45 mpg out of her, that's with a full yoshi, k&n stock replacement, snorkel removed, dynojet 98 tuned 3 and 31/2 out. The benefits outweigh the loss in mpg for sure. I don't choke her at all on a cold start either, no lagging in low and mid RPMs. Best of luck no matter what you decide, but better to get the full kit first time around instead of buying another kit later down the road IMO. Plus, the stainless headers are sexy as fcuk mang...

I dont know about the 'sounding like a dick' part Jiggles, to each their own I suppose. Heres a couple shots of the full exhaust I installed before I put the fairings back on.

Love the area p on my zx10 but I prefer my stock exhaust on my 250. Don't see any need to upgrade it because its purely cosmetic. Even the full exhaust only adds negligible power and for a 250, would you really feel the extra 3-5 ponies ?

I personally don't like the Ninja 250r stock exhaust sound or look. So basically when I plan on upgrading my exhaust I'll be getting it for

Looks
Sounds
And the HP is just a plus that goes well with the dyno jet kit

i cant say what i prefer and whats best since im new to this and like someone stated investing a lot of money on something that isnt gonna add too much hp because of how small of bike it is then you probably dont want to do the yoshi cus ive seen the prices on those when i was looking around and i wasnt about to pay that much for an exhaust system...and yoshi sound is nice though...
i have a Jardine RT-5 its dickishly...Like that dont you @Jiggles ... loud in a way and it rumbles but its not bad and full system for 350 bucks isnt that bad a deal ya dig...

I don't get it. Isn't it favorable for a motorcyclist to have a louder exhaust so that cars can hear you, and they're aware of you?

On a car, I can understand not wanting it to be obnoxiously loud. On a bike, I'd rather be loud and alive.

I like my Tyga full stainless with the carbon silencer. (Other than the fairing problem described here.) It's a little loud, but I prefer to be able to hear it than not.

I totally disagree, the rpm ranges at which I have higher power/torque have changed significantly with the full system, even before messing with the injection system. Remember, on a bike with 27hp a 5hp gain is significant. To call it purely cosmetic is quite the misnomer.

Cuz everyone is saying Area P but the Tyga is cheaper and it says increase the Hp by 4.2

What's the Area P increase?

That's the Tyga system I have. If you got the cash, I'd recommend the AreaP (They have Dyno results on their site somewhere.) Simply because they have such a great rep. - Otherwise the Tyga is also great - Just be aware of the heat issues I referenced in my earlier post. However, Matt from Tyga Performance said in an email:

Quote:
Now we fit a stay on the mid pipe to rigidly mount it.
So it may be taken care of.

Dyno results can be iffy, so I'd take them with a grain of salt.

All the full exhausts will give you roughly the same peak HP gain (+/- 20%) from all the research that I've done. There are minor differences in the power curves that could make one better then others for the street or track I guess.

The biggest difference is in the looks, sound, loudness, and price. Put those things in the order of most importance to you and buy the one that fits the best.

Or just get the one Jiggles wants you to buy, you can't go wrong, and he can get his comission check for pimping their system...

Ha ha. sorry. I mean to say that it appears the generally accepted opinion (larger group) is based on those that voted in the poll (smaller group).

Either way, I'm sort of curious if there's a report that supports one case or another.

I will provide my thoughts on the two more popular exhaust Area P and Yoshimura. Now most riders on here are pro Area P and stick to their guns. To be honest the dyno sheets that I looked at are not to far off between Area P and Yoshimura. The race version of Area P show 31.57 HP and Yoshimura show 30.37 so a 1.2 HP increase for the Area P. My thing is that you get that 1.2 extra HP at the cost of looks because the Area P exhaust looks like ass IMO. The Yoshi is still only the second best looking exhaust though as you did not mention the Scorpion Serket exhaust in your poll. The Scorpion has the best looks IMO but does not perform as well as the Yoshi or Area P. So for looks and power I would suggest the Yoshi all day.

Plus there are other things you can do to get a little more HP. A rejet is necessary of course with a full exhaust but maybe you can look into removing the air box and putting on some pods for filters. There will be no restrictions for air flow and allow the engine to make a little more power. Also remove the Kleen air system if you remove the air box, no extra HP benefit but it is more junk that can be removed from the engine.

I got approached by a dude with a growler...i did not find it loud one bit. i was in the parking lot that was a sidewalk away from the main road where he originally was. Whats the deal with everyone complaining about how loud the growler is..? the dude was over 8k rpm's on the road when he went right by me o.O
