Question Tips on Using Craigslist?

Can anyone offer any tips or suggestions when using Craigslist? I want to sell 2 motorcycle jackets (Suzuki/Hayabusa-Icon)

I prefer to sell them locally, where I can just meet the person somewhere and do an exchange in person...but is this the best practice?

Any advice?

Everytime i've sold something on craigslist, the buyer just came to my house. And everytime i've bought something, i just picked it up from the sellers house. Never really had to meet somewhere public, but then again i was buying rather large items (my cb550 for example)

I've always sold textbooks via a local meetup. Just meet at starbucks or somewhere with lots of people there (but not in a sketchy area). It also helps to bring someone with you just for that little bit of assurance. Oh, and cash only (obviously)!

Okay, either I'm an idiot or the site isn't working right - I can't even create an account because it's not sending me the 'activation link email' it says it's going to. I waited hours for the first one, so I figured I'd try again. Nothing.

(And nothing in my spam/junk folders so I dunno!)

You don't need an account to post on craigslist

But it makes it really easy to manage your postings. you can repost, delete and edit them all in one place.

9 out of 10 times I meet at a starbucks whether buying or selling. Unless it's a big piece of furniture.

I sell a lot on Craigslist. Here's what I do:

-Put your ad up on Saturday morning or before Wednesday so you can refresh it on Saturday.
-Post pics with the ad as some people won't look at ads without them
-Post a phone number as well as the link to your email. Some people won't call and some people won't email.

Thanks for the info - I didn't see the message to wait to do it until this weekend and I already posted it up. I didn't realize I didn't need to create an account to post! Funny, I had posted the items and THEN I received my activation links to create an account. Weird site.

If you do post your # or email address in all numerical formation. Post it similar to as follows:

BAD = 413-6753
GOOD = 4.one.three-6.seven5.three (or 4onethree-6seven5three)

That way web spiders (or whatever you want to call them) can't get your phone data & pass it on to telemarketers and send you a bunch of spam, etc.

Craigslist creates an anonymous link to keep your email safe, so no problem there. As for the phone number, I have placed well over a hundred for sale ads on CL and have had no increase in telemarketer calls or any problems at all. BUT as some one else wrote, you could write out a couple numbers. Great advice on the not meeting at work or home, though. Forgot about that one. I'll meet at their house or somewhere in town.
