My turn for the crash club
I was behind my wife leaving for work in the morning. Turned into the same parking lot I've turned into a million times, turned around on the bike and waved goodbye to my wife like I do every time when she passes by heading to the freeway.
Put my hand back on the throttle, pulled the clutch in, and turned to head out to the other road to head to work. Next thing I knew, I was on the ground wondering WTF just happened and why my shoe wasn't on my foot. I was going maybe 10 mph, and was close to the little planter thing in the parking lot. Never even saw the small patch of mud / water that was running off of it (mud was about 1/4" thick" and must have been a good 18 inches away from the side of the median / planter) I must have still been turning when I hit the mud, because as soon as my front tire was in the mud the front of the bike washed out from underneath me. The bike came down on my left foot (pretty much on my big toe) This pinched my shoe between the pavement and the bike, pulling it off my foot as I slid forward. I was wearing all the gear my helmet, gloves, jacket, jeans, everything except riding shoes / boots (been trying to decide if they were really worth it... after my little crash I'm doing everything possible to find a comfortable riding shoe in 12 4E wide...) Thankfully the crash was right in front of a full gas station and everyone stopped and was staring directly at me as I stood up with one shoe on, and my sock on the other foot. A guy in a truck was nice enough to stop and helped me get the bike up, made sure I was okay, and then was on his way. The damage to the bike was pretty minimal, bent shifter, left side fairing needs to be replaced, and the left mirror & turn signal is scratched. Bent the shifter out so I could ride to work. Had to leave the bike locked up in the warehouse at work for the past 2 days due to my left foot being swollen and bruised. Really hoping to get back on her soon! |

Ankles and feet are probably one of the most likely things to get injured in a crash

Especially after going and working 9 hours the day I crashed (most of it on my feet). My wife is saying I have to have riding boots / shoes before I get back on the bike. Any recommendations on boots for guys with wide feet? |

No idea what constitutes a wide foot but I went and measured mine. The width of my feet is about 3.75-3.9 inches I ordered a pair of TCX S-Race boots because I needed a boot that was comfortable to wear and walk in all day long as well as protective. They ain't cheap tho!
And they fit like a dream!

Sorry to read about your accident.
Any tall regular boot could have protected you well this time. Search the site for riding boots. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...ighlight=boots
