Water pipe on engine head leaking
I'm amidst of doing a valve adjustment and noticed that I have a slight leak at where the water pipe attaches to the valve head. Has anyone had this problem. I l looked at the parts fiche and it looks like there's an o-ring attached to it on the bottom. What I want to know is if this water pipe is press fit in and if I pull it out to replace the o-ring will it leak profusely? It's not leaking at all really and I have not noticed a drop in coolant level.
Side note, two bolts securing the engine bracket to frame rattled off some time ago, as well as two bolts securing my rear fender, one fairing bolt, and an exhaust header nuts. Also my clutch cable is frayed.

Just replace the O-ring.
The tube is hold in place by a clamp and a bolt, the ring does the sealing.

I read somewhere that the oring is the same as the one in the oil filter. And supposedly all Fram oil filter packs come with the oring.

So I finally learned that the water pipe is held down by two rubber plugs. The pipe "hooks" itself into the lower plug while the upper plug pushes down on the hook when the valve cover is placed over it. This is what prevents the pipe from just popping out. Free play in the pipe is developed when these plugs dry rot and lose their shape, as in this case with mine which wore out the o-ring.

The pile holds the O ring. Make sure you clean out the hole. I use a wire brush for cleaning battery terminals to wire brush the crud out of te hole then seal the hole with yamabond gray sealant. That pipe is a real pain in the butt to get sealed.
I use a vacuume plug on the metal hook to hold it if I don't have the proper rubber part.

Thanks you guys, found I had a leak here and knew right where to come check for info on this. Got a 670B2016 oring coming in the mail (always feel a bit silly ordering something like this, but nice to know it'll be a watertight fit)
Thanks! |
