Airbox Glue ?

Does anyone know what kind of glue is used on the airbox and the ducts that go in between the carburetor and airbox ?

Specifically, I took off the air "ducts" (part# 14073-0146) for whatever reason and it seems like they're going to need another application of that special kawasaki glue to retain a proper seal once I install everything back together .

So what kind of glue can I use ?

If you mean the glue that holds the rubber boots in the air box. You can use RTV silicone. The black or clear gasket stuff from the auto parts store. But you really don't need it. The boots will stay without glue.

I have never used glue when reinstalling these. I think the manufacturer does that as a secondary measure to ensure a good seal. If I was to reseal them I would try some weatherstrip adhesive in a tube not the spray stuff. This pruduct seems to have the same consistency as the factory glue and dries to the same texture.

How critical is a good seal on the intake side for performance?

Pretty important. It sucks in lots of air and acts like it's jetted lean because that's effectively what's happening.

A buddy's pregen had the airbox boots slip off his carbs and after doing the WD-40 spraying at idle to check for leaks, we re-attached the airbox boots to the carbs right, and the bike started acting completely normal again.

not to mention, a leak there would suck in unfiltered air; major no-no.

WD-40! Yikes, sounds like a mess! I think you're supposed to use something like starter fluid for that.

Both work! We just used WD-40 because he had a can handy at the time.

It's not like I'm running an entire bottle through the engine. Just a spritz here and there to make the leak obvious by making the idle race for a second.

Be careful with WD 40. I used it to do a wet compression test. Then put plugs in to ride around the block. I was doing something with the engine. As soon as I opened the throttle. The engine rattled with detonation. I mean really bad. I turned around to head home.It cleared up right away and the bike was normal. Then I did it agian. That is when I discovered that engines dont like it.
I use gum cutter, to test for vaccum leaks.

Huh, his didn't do that at all. Maybe we just used a small enough amount that it burnt off without issue? Thanks for the heads-up though.
