Scored Rear rotor

I put new pads on in the Fall and already one side of them is totally gone and before I knew it the rotor was scored.... Is it normal for the rear pads to wear out so much? I haven't even touched the front pads since buying the bike in July. Is it possible to re-use/machine this rotor or do I have to start looking for a replacement?

It's possible you're riding resting your feet on the rear brake lever, even the slightest pressure will wear out the pads very fast.

And to replace or refinish would depend on how deep the scoring is.

There may be a couple of reasons your pads have worn out so fast.
1. cheap pads
2. brake drag

Bike rotors normally do not get resurfaced or turned like car brake rotors. They are too thin. There are a few shops that specialize in grinding the rotors surface, but the rotor must be well within factory specs and not warped. Replacement is the usual fix.

You may also want to get a Digital Thickness Gauge to see if your rotors are within spec.

Definitely cheap POS pads then. One thing gets fixed, another thing breaks!

If it's surface rust, yes, if it's just minimal superficial rust, i'd say simply pop it on and it'll come off while the pad is seating.

If you have access to, or know anybody with a medium blaster, a soft blast medium will take off the rust and refinish the disc perfectly.

Brand and model?

Frozen pistons with dirt and grime can do that too.

I tried to check my past orders on kneedraggers but I guess I ordered them as a guest. They were $30 that's all I can say. I think there were only a couple choices at the time....
