His wife is 44 but he is only 45 which isn't very old either. I feel bad for him and his family. There lives are changed forever.

it's crazy. Its hard for me to comprehend someone getting seriously injured skiing or snowboarding (less extreme ends of it) but it does happen quite a bit. guess its just something I take for granted.
I have been snowboarding since I was young and I guess i used to do some crazy stuff while on a snowboard and still do on occasion but for some reason I just don't think of it as being "dangerous" to that extent, perhaps I have just been lucky. I still don't wear a helmet 95% of the time unless I'm doing tricks on man made obstacles (they are sharp and hard) I need to break that habit though.

Sad news for sure, and certainly not the exit the man deserves.

Am you kidding me? We always race to the bottom. Even today (older and wiser) we race to the bottom. Skiing is like riding a motorcycle. Lots of body control (and adrenalin rushes).

Footage from his helmet mounted camera shows he went slightly off trail and fell, hitting his helmet and head on a rock. There's always an element of risk involved with any sport and that risk can increase depending on the surrounding elements. Here's a view of the particular run he was on:

I've been skiing for 50 years and still think it's great.

You might need a new hill.

I usually don't care about the lives of celebrities but it really hit me hard when I heard he was in a coma.

I feel like he is a true athlete and a real champion.
