Show a picture of what you did to be more visible
At night and morning hours.
I will start this is my 2012 ninja 250SE. I bought this with 4k miles. After about a year or more riding I plan on moving up but do not plan to sell this bike. |

btw, that is not me in the photo above, just the best picture I could find online. The actual motorcycle doesn't really make much of a difference, it's what you do as a rider. The higher up you keep visible items, the better. White/sparkly Arai RX-Q along with a jacket that has a lot of white on the shoulders/arms. It needs to be washed more often because of the white, but worth the visibility imo. Multiple studies have shown white is just as, if not more, visible to drivers than the "high viz yellow/orange", and to me, looks less silly. edit: oh and an LED tail with strobe upon application of the brakes. I DID NOT hook up the integrated turn signals, those things are just beyond confusing to drivers. |

When I look at that Killboy photo, the thing that stands out the most to me is not the high-viz vest but the white helmet in the middle of the pack.
I've read that roughly 50% of a rider's visibility is due to the helmet, as that is at or above the eye level of most drivers. A brightly coloured helmet really stands out - yet I see a lot of guys riding with black or matte helmets. I have a solid white full-face with white reflective tape in various places. It seems to stand out very well, especially at night.

I can't find the article that I read, but it actually broke down the statistics for high-viz vs white, and I if I am recalling correctly, it was like 1% off or something, one way or the other. They're basically equally good at creating contrast.
Both white and high-viz helmets are going to disappear into some backgrounds though, it's inevitable. I went with white because it reflects the most light whereas any color will absorb at least some of the visible spectrum. And to me, it looks better. If I get similar visibility benefit from both, I'll choose white every day. The helmet I got actually has some "sparkle" to it as well, again, in hopes that it reflects more light. Anything light though, and you're definitely increasing your visibility. Disregarding studies that have proven it is quite silly. |

Scorpion EXO-500 in the Oil pattern with hi-vis yellow. I like the abstract pattern (as opposed to pictures of things found on other helmets) and it breaks up the hi-vis a bit so I don't look like a total traffic cone. Especially around dusk, the hi-vis color really pops. My Firstgear mesh jacket (which I can't find online) has reflective piping on it too. Reflective rim stripes from http://glsigns.com/wheelstripes.html. That reflection is just from the iPhone flash. They blend right into the wheel when they're not reflecting. |

Not sure if you're interested, but Macna makes an awesome line called "Nighteye," which is far better than your typical motorcycle reflective piping. Take a look at the difference here:

Firstly, I choose a red ninjette at the dealer.
Then I added reflective red wheel tape. And lastly, I added a "racy" graphics. And...I added a Stebel air horn to wake up distracted drivers!

Assume that nobody can see you, those that can want to kill you & ride accordingly, hi-vis gear just gives you a false sense of security.
If you really want to improve your safety at night put in a set of Philips Motovision Extreme or Osram nightbraker/nightracers. If you can see it earlier you have more time to set yourself up & take action. |

If that is your goal, go with black everything, a switch to shut off your lights, remove all reflectors and Velcro your license plate on.

I want to go Hi-Vis on my helmet next pick up for street work but not due for one for a bit. Going to look into a good Hi-Vis vest to go over my white mesh summer jacket as its getting a bit hot for the Olympia

Solid neon yellow helmet plus SOLAS tape.
My gear also happens to have various bits of reflective material on it (logos) but that's not a priority for me. A rider's head is large and the highest point on the bike, and is therefore more visible from farther away. The lit up one is reflecting the weeny LED "flash" on my iPhone. This stuff is BRIGHT.

I get that you're talking about the tape... but if you're taking so much trouble to light up like a Christmas tree at night, why are you trying to be super-stealthy in the daytime?
Doesn't it make sense to try to be highly visible ALL the time? Just curious.

I don't remember where I bought the wheel tape from, but probably on eBay. When looking for some, be sure it says reflective. I started with the solid stripe kind, but it was nearly impossible to apply it and have it come out perfect. The 3 sections are much easier, and it is simple to space them, as there are 6 spokes on the Ninjette wheel. I found it best to remove each wheel from the bike when applying. The rim decal set came with enough stickers to do the bike twice, but they are holding up very well.
