Bike got wet in the rain.

I took my bike to work and it rained all day. Is there maintenance that should be done?

If the brake discs get rusty they will lose the rust. If chain is rusty might want to oil it. That's it.

whenever your bike gets wet you'll want to lube everything that gets lubed. Examples are chains, swing arm pivot, cables, etc. Time consuming but I just do it after I wash my bike. If I'm riding in the rain often, like me, I'll just spray chain lube on the drivetrain after a ride. I dont carry about it looking ugly since I'd be riding it again in the wet conditions.

check to make sure nothing melted or dissolved.

parts that usually melt include:
headlights
taillights
handlebars
rearsets
gas tank bolts
sidestand switches
clutch levers
2nd gear
the underside of your tires

parts that usually dissolve include:
chain rollers
sprocket teeth
bar end screws
ignition coils
left side piston
rear fender
front left brake pad

hope nothing's ****ed!

The only thing I noticed was that it took longer to start and when I put it in first gear, it would immediately turn off. I messed around with the clutch, took it to 2nd, then back down to first, and then it worked. Strange. Maybe someone was messing with my clutch. Last time, kids were sitting on my bike while their parents took pictures. Another guy molested my bike by sliding his hand all over the side. I am a cook in a restaurant so my bike gets plenty of publicity.

Yes it was down. It didn't fall or anything. Why?

The part about it being in gear is why it would keep shutting off. There's a series of switches that keep the bike from running when it's not safe to ride. IE, kick stand down, in gear, letting the clutch out. Same thing cars do.

One of your switches may be a little sticky, causing the shutoff feature to not work completely as intended. It's fairly normal and your switches probably just need a little squirt of lube. nbd.

Thank you. Best advice on this thread. I know intermediate mechanical work on cars and some of the things with the motorcycle are the same but sometimes I will encounter something new. How do I lube the shift lever? If that`s what it`s called. It does stick at times. Sometimes at red lights, I down shift and it will stay stuck on 2nd or won`t go all the way back down to first.

That make up date though...Still got to have a make up date with my wife for getting the bike but I didn't leave her out in the rain so it can wait a little longer. She`s warming up to the bike and I`m trying to get her interested in riding. Just trying to get my skills up, take the MSF course, have my complete gear before I go around trying to teach her how to ride.

Consider it washed and ride it.

I find that after a time out in the rain, my front brakes get a bit of rust and I get off-throttle squeak. Scrubbing the rust off by strong braking resolves that (obviously not while it's still raining).
