Engine Block off plates
Okay guys I have a Carbied 09 Ninja 250r, and have been looking for information regarding block off plates, can anyone tell me what they do, why I would get them, and if they change anything significantly enough for me to realise while I ride?

Block off plates are used for when you remove the AirClean system (for emissions).
When you remove that it leaves a open hole into the engine, the plates close that off. Removal of this system should only be done when chaining full exhaust system, I believe. |

The holes on the top of the valve cover go directly into the exhaust system. They allow air to enter the exhaust to aid the catalytic converter. Unburned fuel needs oxygen so the cat can burn it.
If you have no cat the air will cause a POP sound when decelerating.

The cat needs oxegen to burn the fuel. Without a catalist the fuel and air would not burn. You want the heat to stay in the exhaust system. That is why we wrap headers.

this is something i've never understood... why should the headers be hot? as in, if you could do something to aide cooling the headers, why not? what is better about a hot header? i mean if you don't have a cat and don't care about emissions

The point is to have a proper fuel mixture knside the engine. Header heat is not the goal. But hot headers move gases better. I will find out why. I know but can't explane.

i've heard before that hotter fluids have less coefficient of friction because of the decreased mass per area... maybe it's something like that?
