Harriman State Park, NY
if you are ever in the area, these are the best 5 miles you can find around here. Great surface, lots of technical turns, abrupt elevation changes and even a hairpin! You'd want to ride it again and again, but take it slow on the first time: the road surrounded by trees and big boulders and there are no run-offs.

Kanawauke Road is also pretty great as well.

218 up past West Point and into Cornwall also has some spectacular views.
And the road that goes south on the other side of the Bear Mountain Bridge is great. The big downfall of this whole area is that on weekends there's a lot of traffic... very popular with riders. That also means a heavy police presence. y'all be careful and mind your speed.

Kanawauke rd. is great, but it felt a bit like a stretch of highway after this.
Maybe I'm just not used to it yet. All this area is awesome, but it does attract a lot of traffic and cops, it is so very true. |

Arden Valley Road is my favorite! Can't find a road to top Harriman State Park yet. But my journey's just begun. Hope to see you there sometime!

10+ years ago I used to participate in the cycling race in Harriman State Park, 5 laps around some brutal climbs.. usually on Mother's Day.
Hunterdon County in NJ have plenty of roads that are comparable to Bear Mt.; just need to take your time to explore, with the fall foliage watch out for wet leaves. |
