Sad yet humbling

Unfortunately tonight while at work I partially witnessed and accident and probable death.

At around 9:45pm a motorcycle traveling west on griffin road just east of 441 in Dania Beach Florida hit a car that pulled out in front of him/her.

I heard a brief horn beep, followed by a crash. When I looked I only saw a single cars headlights and nothing else. The driver then got out and ran a few feet up the road to the sidewalk. A few seconds later a few people from the next door restaurant who were eating outside ran across the street the the same area on the sidewalk.
Though I didn't actually witness it, only heard, I then knew exactly what had happened. A customer a few minutes later stopped in and said they had drove by and saw a person with a helmet on the sidewalk and a destroyed sport bike nearby.
Cops, followed by an ambulance and firetruck shortly arrived, however stayed for approximately 30 minutes. As the ambulance left, after being on scene for quite a while, it left in no hurry, which I can only assume means the worst.

Most cars travel around 60mph on this road, so I can only assume the bike was going approximately 60. From what I heard and saw, the car appeared to be pulling a U-turn and pulled out right in front of the bike.

Witnessing it just kind of hit home about how dangerous a bike can be at times. I'm sure there are multiple situations where the guy could have survived had be been more defensive, but that isn't the case.

This is just a reminder for us all to be more defensive and careful out there because you never know what may happen one day when you least expect it. Ride safe.

I used to hate riding in that area because of the Hard Rock. Too many crazy drivers. U-turns occur on that road all of the time. It's not a great place to ride. I wish the best for the rider, and the driver.

I know of 10-15 people over the last 5 years that have died within a 2 mile stretch. Mostly bikes and pedestrians killed by cars (though in all fairness, most of the pedestrians were drunk coming out of the bar down the street).

It just happens to be a slight lower class area with some crappy rundown houses and some trailer parks (the stereotypical kind too). Combine that with a couple of bars in the area, and it's a recipe for disaster when placed on a 6 lane road that people do 60+ on. It's really only that 2 mile section too...past that, everything is fine.

The casino has made it worse mainly due to a large increase in traffic. Though I'm sure are fair amount of people drive home drunk too, which is never good.
