Disaster in Haiti

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people in Haiti. It's good to see that when something like this happens people from around the world volunteer to help and send aid.

I am with ya there Snake. It is so sad when things like this happen. These people struggle daily on a normal day. No one needs what happened there.

That`s for sure. Will send $$$ and prayers. Found out that Haiti is THE poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

All of the cell phone providers are providing a way of donating $$ to the Red Cross. Text Haiti to 909999 and they will transfer $10.00 to the Red Cross and debit your cell phone account. Last I heard this has raised over $8M for Haiti.

My biggest concern is the lack of an effective command and control by the Haiti "government". You can have all the supplies and aide sitting at the airport and soon to be open port but if you can not distribute it effectively the value is lost.

Long after Papa Doc and Baby Doc have been removed the legacy of an sub-standard infrastructure continues to doom the people of Haiti.

Two things that scare me in this world are earthquakes and spiders. Can't stop either from happening.

I'm feel very bad for the Haitians. Earthquakes suck big time. We've had two 4.0 or better 12mi from my house the last few days and the 6er up north and the one in Mexico.. Things have been shakin' lately more than usual! Make sure your earthquake kits are stocked up!

I know what you are talking about. I lived through several eartquakes in the early 90's when I lived in Long Beach. It's very scary because there is no warning.
I hope the government of Haiti adopts stricter building codes when they rebuild so the building will withstand both huricanes and earthquakes.

I am usually too cheap to donate to charity, but last night I donated two days' pay to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti earthquake fund. I figured that if I can afford to buy myself a shiny new iPod I can afford to give some cash to help people in such a miserable state.

I hope some of you can also do the same. Dig in your pocket, even if all you can afford to give is a few bucks (or € or £ or ¥...)

I just heard that Argentina had an earthquake yesterday. This is very disturbing that there are so many earthquakes happening around the world in the past couple of months.

I usualy donate my time and efforts to charities. In this case since I can't go there and help out I followed the example of several of our members and donated this morning.
