Unhappy Dr. Dre Beats

Sooo last week I came back to my apartment from work...only to find my two best friends there waiting to tell me some bad news....

I own a pair of Solo Beats By Dr. Dre...and they were on the counter and fell off and got stepped on...only to crack the headband on them into two pieces...i would post pictures but i'm kinda lazy and here's a link to a pair of the headphones if you don't know what i'm talking about:

My friend confessed and said she would pay to get them fixed...the only problem is now I have to decide how much money I want to make her pay....the headphones work perfectly yet, just the headband is broken

so I called Monster..the company that makes them and since they were bought on ebay blah blah blah i can't get them fixed for free with the warranty...i'll spare you the rest of the details

My two options are:

---send them back to Monster and pay $130 for them to send me a new pair with a 1 year warranty (only thing is I have read posts online about how the headband breaking has been a pretty common occurrence on these so i'm scared now if i get a new pair they might break...but i never had a problem with mine before they got stepped on so idk maybe i'm just hearing all the negatives about it)

OR

---send my headphones to this headphone repair guy I found online and get the headband reinforced for like $60...here's the link for this:

http://www.headphonerepair.com/?page_id=5

I told my friend about the two options already and she said she'd pay for whatever cz it was her fault...but we are college students and I'm gunna feel guilty for making her pay $130 just cz I don't wanna take the cheap way out

I'm just looking for opinions on the situation...and if anyone knows of any other ways I can get this problem fixed without buying new headphones it would be very much appreciated...i tried to keep this message short but obviously that didn't work so i really appreciate it if u actually took the time to read all of this....

Thanks,
Kayla

Option 3: Don't let her pay at all and let her make it up to you with KFC or equivalent tasty meal.

The beauty of friendship is being able to make problems go away with food.

i would consider that...but i really don't have the money to fix them myself...being a college student and all and because they are like $200 headphones.....and it's depressing seeing some perfectly good headphones that were given to me as a gift just sit there cz they are broken

Ok that's understandable. Well it'll be up to you to determine how much burden you'd want to put on your friend, but if it was a true accident (and it seems that way) then I'd personally go easy on her. That's just my stance on it...this is entirely up to you. Also, I'm not sure how good a fix that repair guy can give you, though, but seeing as how money's tight, I'd probably go that route.

Or go halfsies on a new, more awesome (awesomer?) set. Not sure how big a headphone dork you are, but you may be able to find a comparable set for less money. I'm not gonna say that those headphones are over priced or anything.....but Dr Dre's name is on it...sooo.....

good luck!

Buy cheap headphones and let her make it up to you somehow. Don't go for expensive stuff when student (experience speaking).

I love those headphones!

If you do send them to the guy who'll fix them for $60, keep in mind that it probably won't be as beautiful in terms of aesthetics as the original OEM headband. He does look legit, but if the aesthetics of these headphones are important to you then the $130 route may be the better option. Otherwise, i'd go the budget route!

If you really feel bad, offer to go halfsies with her. She pays the $60, equivalent to the price of the cheap fix, and you pay the rest. Of course, she owes you a few rounds and make sure gives you first dibs on all the guys at bars for the rest of college.

/threadjack begin

anyone who spends $xxx on headphones and then plugs them into an ipod or any other mp3 player should be, uh, re-edumicated about the shortcomings of that particular choice.

/threadjack end

(gifts don't count).

^^Alex are you suggesting plugging them into a stereo system and listening to some Steely Dan on vinyl?

No, I'm saying that after any music is compressed down to a shadow of its former self, even at the relatively higher qualities of MP3's, big dollar headphones are a complete waste. All they help at that point is helping to hear the compression problems.

If someone is into SACD's, studio mastering, or any other pro-type audio work, have at it. But for anything else, find decent headphones for $30 and spend the rest on gas money for the bike.

(speaking as someone who has wasted $xxx a few times on big dollar headphones in the past).

LOL I'd also like to point out the futility of buying headphones that are larger than the device you're plugging into.

I would probably duck tape the bad boy together and use it, but then again, i can careless about headphones.

Let me ask you this...

If the head band broke by you...which option would you chose? Would you take the "cheap" way out or cough up the money for a new pair?

but I agree with Toast, since you've already discussed the pricing options for both with yoru friend, to save the friendship without any hard feelings, i'd have my friend pay 60$ and i'd come up with the rest of the 70$ to get the new one.

Id get some carbon fiber cloth, and some epoxy, make a mold of the headband, make 100 of them, and sell them on ebay to all the folks that said "the headbands break easy".

Problem solved, yer rich, and your 'phones are sporting some custom carbon fiber
