Those Italian bikes run very very good.
Those old guys run very very good. I thought Kawasaki's new bike was supposed to be killer? WTF! How come Suzuki can only win in the States? How come those foreign fellas have such kewl names? How come those commentators talk funny? They must be from Brooklyn. They are great to listen to, even when they're wrong. They're brilliant!

Very happy WSBK is back on and looking forward to GP as well. Wanted to see Rea do better but with injuries in that field, he did pretty well. The RSV4 continues to show its got crushing power, but good to see the BMWs doing well. As for the 10R, give it a few races and then we can be good and let down if it doesn't do well. Top 10s in both races is far better than last year regardless.

Melandri came off motogp pretty nicely, it seems. I'd like to see him keep it up. I have a slight fondness for him based solely on the fact that he was teammates with Simoncelli (<3<3<3 ) and getting to watch him actually be competitive was kind of cool. I'll be rooting for him and Johnny Rea this year.
That said, race 1 was boring as sin! Oh my god! Race 2 at least had a nice battle for second, but race 1 had all the thrills of the warm up lap |

Missed race two. After watching race one, I went for a ride, I just could not sit on the couch any longer.
I will be rooting for Max, Johnny Rea (Anyone that can jump of a burning bike at 130 mph in practice, re-crash at super pole and fix his own dislocated finger walking back to the pits, gets my support ) Eugene Laverty is the seasons dark horse surprise.

Going to be a great season as pretty much all the the factories except Kawasaki & Suzuki look very competitive. I also thought the new Kawi was supposed to be hot sh!t??? My buddy (who just started watching racing) is all stoked 'cause BMW are making a good showing but us ninja riders barely even see our guys during the race
Totally rooting for the tough guy Rea and see him as one who has potential to ride in MotoGP -if he can stop crashing. Laverty did a great job on his 1st ride & Marco will only start pushing harder. |

I'm not sure I'd classify him as a dark horse; he is on the team and bike that had the #1 plate only a year back. Fun rider to watch!

Good job Melandri. Very proud of him.
Rooting for Max Biaggi. I got a chance to interview him last year when he came to visit Dainese in Cali. Very nice guy off the track. On the track, he's a force to be reckoned with.

IIRC Laverty was #2 in world ss last year with 1 dnf so he could have been the champ in the 600 class if not for that 1 dnf.

Goofy Question
Pardon me for sounding like a total noob, but I've just started watching these races and something is confusing the hell out of me. What is a factory bike compared to a bike that isn't? From what I've been able to deduce, a factory bike receives full sponsorship from the manufacturer? Can someone clear this up for me?
And I agree, I wish they did the WSBK races in HD like the MotoGP ones. |

Yup. A "factory" team is one that isn't buying bikes from the manufacturer, but instead is run directly by the company. The "factory" teams still have sponsors and advertising to support their costs. The bikes generally get the newest and trickest parts and development. Many of the companies also have satellite and/or customer teams. Those teams have to buy or lease the bikes from the factory. Typically their parts are just that little bit older, less trick, etc. It's rare for a non-factory team to be equally competitive with a factory squad.
There are fuzzy areas, with how much support the companies decide to provide to the customer teams. So this year Ducati officially pulled their factory team, and no longer has a directly supported team in the paddock. But, they provided the top-flight bikes from last year to Checa's Althea team this year. And a couple of mechanics and other team members from the factory squad last year are now on his team. And as the primary Ducati team in WSBK, even if it's not officially the "factory" team, they can likely count on reasonable support and development through the year if needed. But perhaps not to the level that Haga and Fabrizio were getting last year in an official factory team. The bikes are a bit less trick in WSBK, with more power than the spec tires can put up with over the course of the race, so there's that much more chance that a pretty good bike can keep up with a marginally superior bike, even from factory to non-factory. In MotoGP, there is so much development and resources spent on the factory teams, that the satellite teams don't have a chance anywhere near the top, and a Top 5 finish would be fantastic.

Sykes crashed in race one, went lowside when the front wheel slipped out. Was doing really well, too, and fighting for a podium spot. Completely disappeared in the second race -- bike (or him after the crash) weren't competitive. Oh, well.

Time for a drug test. He was unexplainable!
How about that wheel coming off during the race! Kawasaki had a pretty good crash ( as far as crashing goes).

Clearly Marco's fault that Biaggi jumped the start in race 2 and rode like a squid in race 1. What a tool.

That wheel was wild. Wish they had a pit reporter to go find out what happened. Same thing when the supersport tires were going flat at Round 1 would be nice to have some pit row coverage.
Seeing Biaggi's slapping actions just put him down on my list of riders that I like. |

I'm a Biaggi fan, but him slapping Melandri was just stupid and unprofessional. He needs to start acting like the champion he is. Congrats to Melandri.
The rear wheel mishap was just bizarre. Like some of the commentators were saying, it was funny in a horrible way.

In that video of Biaggi slapping Marco, I love the Italian commentators exclamations of protest and surprise. Haha.
Yeah, that second race was pretty good. I know it's only been four races, but King Carlos is looking pretty good. Speaking of looking good, Melandri's wife was gorgeous. Great tactic to keep the viewership, show the beautiful Italian women. |
