Dealing with insurance
I posted this in my crash thread already but figured I'd make a separate thread for in the hopes of a getting more responses to it.
Just got a call back from Progressive (my insurance company) saying that they'd have to total the bike, which was pretty much expected given the damage to the front and the exhaust, but it's still sad to hear it officially. Geico (the other guy's insurance company) still hasn't made contact with their guy so I was going to just have mine handle it and then let them deal with the hassle of tracking down the other guy. I've never had to actually deal with insurance before, so, is that a good idea or should I just wait for Geico to make contact with the other guy? I'd like to get back on a bike sooner rather than later but not if handling it this way is going to come back to bite me in the ass. |

I would just let your insurance handle it. It's kinda what they're for, dealing with the other party and getting you back up and running as soon as possible.

I agree. Dealing with your company will be the easiest however I think my Statefarm makes you pay the deductible up front and then it's reimbursed at the end. I'm not sure of Progressive's policy.

Progressive has the same one. I just have to pay my deductible and then once they get it sorted out, they'll reimburse me.

I'm not sure of the circumstances of the loss, but it sounds like you're talking about subrogation.
Going through Progressive can save you a lot of hassle, though you will probably have to pay your deductible up front. Let Progressive deal with Geico, and as soon as it's all settled you should get your deductible back. |
