What is the stock exh header made of? Stainless?

I am in rut-
Trying to mod my 07' Ninja 250 here.
I am tring to convert over to a +08' SINGLE exh setup. I have a brand new single slip on... (Danmoto) + airbox delete....
I have just discovered that Kawi changed the head casting( stupid!!)
at the exh ports.. so an older header wont bolt up.

If you eye ball it... it looks the same-- but when you actually get the newer header up to the head, it tells a story.

So I am about to fab up and weld a hybrid flange, slipping the old flanges on the newer pipes. I'm wondering about dissimilar metals...

Q: ** I know the +08 headers are SS but does anyone know what the older ones are made of ??

I have not been able to find anyone else who has done this swap using Kawi parts. I do know that I will need to fabricate a lower mounting point down at the bottom,. easy.

With the heat cycles headers go through, it's easy to tell what they are by looking at them. Mild steel is covered in rust, stainless isn't, and titanium turns blue. I know the pregen headers are stainless steel, but I'm not sure what type of steel. Some types of ss will stick to magnets, others won't, while all types of mild and high carbon will stick to magnets. As long as you use a good stainless welding rod or wire you should not have any problems joining them, though. Check with @RacerX if you have questions, as he recently welded up a way to run a pregen exhaust on his newgen bike.

Pregen headers are double walled mild steel painted. I did a 2-1 header conversion on my bike about a month ago.

I did one, too, and mine are not double walled...

While a magnet test usually will work to determine if it's stainless or not, just be aware that there are alloys of stainless that are still slightly magnetic. Obviously not any helpful information in this case where it's already been determined, but keep it in mind for later.

You can weld stainless to mild steel using stainless filler material.

Slightly magnetic?
MANY stainless steels are just as magnetic as mild steel.

Do none of you guys cook with stainless knives?
