It's just a fairing bumper. Nothing screws in there.

Haven't figured out what rim to use for a second disk.
Can't do it to my stock one.

I do have the reversed HH pads though, for what it's worth . lol
Now I just need the caliper and rim.

Then I'll just snap the forks off or finish bending the frame anyways.

Did my first GSXR DIY for the GSXR forum.
Here's a copy since you guys would have to log in to see it yourselves I think?

It's how to fix the headset play.
A very common problem on a lot of bikes I ride that aren't mine!
I always have my headset in check.

Yeah I guess I didn't take as many pics as I thought.

I was able to complete the adjustment while eating some soft tacos for dinner.

First I popped the stem nut off with a breaker bar and noted it took 1/4 turn to loosen to finger turn-able.


Then I removed the front res.


Then I used a ratcheted allen to loosen the upper triple clamp bolts and the bolts to the clip-ons. You only see the ratchet on one of the bolts here while my tacos are slowly dissipating.


Here you can see the clip-ons have been loosened. I also took the airbox cover off after a step below..


You can pull these off and throw them away. We won't be needing them anymore.


They tried to turn the 2011 into a sports car but it failed miserably. (aka lift the hood)


Now once you have the ECU out..


and you're on the last Taco..


You grab that magic spanner wrench from the Ninja 250R to save the day so you don't ruin things and you tighten the lower bolt, only hand tight. A little bit at a time. You have to keep testing things and feeling it out.
A good bike mechanic can do it right by hand but it might take him two or three tries. (But he should know what RIGHT feels like when done)
then you tighten the bolt directly above it to lock the lower bolt in place.


Once you think you got the feel right, tighten the upper stem nut..
Screw it down finger tight, then tighten it 1/4 more turn with a breaker. No more.


Then you need to re-tighten the upper triple clamp bolts and the clip-on bolts while holding the clip-ons in place.
After which, you can bolt your front brake res back on, then polish up the bike and lube the chain.

Redo as necessary.
If it's too tight, it will feel funky to steer the bike. you'll know right away.
Get off and fix it immediately, do not ride with it too tight.
If it's too loose, you'll still get the noise and steering will be too easy.
It's a tricky adjustment to acquire the feel for.

Takes about an hour if you are good at mechanic work and eat a lot of food.

Uhh... that doesn't look like my 250's spanner wrench at all. Mine is perfectly flat with no raised edge, no hole in the end, and it is made to slot into a short pipe with different-sized opening on either flattened side, which then acts as a sort of handle. One side of the pipe fits the spanner wrench, one side fits the included axle-nut wrench, and all three can be connected in one long tool for better leverage on the rear axle.

TheDuck made his own Castle/Crown nut/socket for the GSXR triple tree in his SV650:

Make sure you heed all these warnings. Suspension adjustment can get scary quick if you do it wrong. Tank slappers and traction loss coming out of corners and such.

I'm going to need help setting/measuring my three sags f & r
I think I can tweek the rest at the track or in the garage and mark the settings for each.
Also oil height may need to be adjusted.
I think my stock springs are ok for my weight.

They say when you have the suspension tuned by a shop it's like night and day difference.
There is also a video you can buy, and the text linked above was taken from the video or the guy who made it or something. Really good stuff. Even talks about having too loose steering stem etc.

I think my GSXR is a bit stiff rebound? in the rear for the freeway and I even think the preload could be backed off some too. I don't know how to do the other two adjustments on the rear.
My user's manual is trying to help me. lol

I've had this bike a few weeks and 1200 miles and it's still not adjusted 100% yet and I do a bit of work on it at least every other day. I'm trying to figure out if there is an end to the adjustments and maintenance on this bike but I can quickly see there is not!
IMO, half the fun. =)

By the time I got the oil changed it was time for 600mi service, now suspension setup and then finish the 600 mi service with throttle body synch and then back to suspension and safety wiring and another oil change..

There is always something to improve on the setup without even adding modifications.

I thought about putting new grips on it but the stock ones are grippy and good! No reason to replace anything!

I wanted to cut the levers shorter for my own reasons but that would be murder on the nice stock GSXR levers. No way will I go cheap ebay levers on this one. In that case, no reason to upgrade/modify those either!

Some track days have a suspension guy there who will do a sag set, check your tire wear, and then fine tune after a session on the track for a reasonable price. Mine has been set by the eyeball and feel method, but hoping to get sag done by someone prior to monday track day. I do know how to do it but no one else lending a caring hand!!

My bike will hardly turn the radius of the circle at my DMV.. you have to really know your stuff.
Half the people I know would not be able to do this for sure on my bike.

I don't want to have to resort to paying the MSF $250 because I can't complete the DMV circle.. so I need some more practice. Again it's extremely tricky on my 750 at my local DMV circle.

I have thought about re-registering my Ninjette just to get my license, but what fun would that be?
I want to learn to get the gsxr through the course.. and it's not easy.

Well I passed the lolipop test a few times today. Unfortunately the DMV guy was nowhere in sight. lol
I did get it on video.

It is very possible on my bike, just I don't think I could nail it every single time... enough to pass in front of a sheriff on command. Not on the 750. On the 250, yeah, easy.

I'm going to spend a few more days practicing it. Then I'll give it a whirl.
If I fail, then I'll take the MSF class.

I just want a week of practice at this first. I know I can do it.. I proved it yesterday, just need to get better at it. It's not easy at all on the 750..
There's like 10 things you have to do perfectly right to make it all happen exactly like it should and if forget or mess one thing up it won't work at all.

Fuggin' haaaaard. I had to buy the hardest bike to get through the DMV test didn't I?

Yesterday I found a bit better of a tip was to actually lean into the circle instead of counterbalance lean it.

Feels crappy though because you are going so slow. You could wash any second.

I think it can honestly be done either way. Lean into it or lean out of it. As long as you keep the bike up, in the lines and no feet down.

I had it yesterday. Maybe I'll put the video but it doesn't show my actual wheels so it's not proving much. It will take a bunch more practice to be able to do it every single time on command for the test. Even then a gust of wind could mess the whole thing up.

I'm a fairly skilled rider and this has proven to be really hard to do. Learning this has seen an improvement in my other riding though. It's a valuable lesson. When I get the brick through the needle eye in front of the sheriff, I shall be quite confident.

I heard somewhere you can go rent scooters and pass the test but I really want to do this in front of a sheriff on my bike to prove I know how to control my bike beyond the shadow of a doubt at low speed.

I heard sheriffs fail streetbikers just for being streetbikers. That's not gonna help any!

How's the 750 treating you by the way? I'm looking in to upping to a gixxer and I rode a 750 - absolutely loved it. Do you know of any major differences I should know about from the 08-09 models to your model? I know there's the brembo brakes and the showa forks and one less mode.

There was a lot changed. Over half of the bike.
The frame and swingarm had much more weight pulled.
They keep getting lighter and lighter.
Even the rims were lightened more. They are totally hollowed out. There's barely any rim
there holding the bike off the ground. All the bolts are hollowed out and machined for less weight.
This bike doesn't weight much. It's just wide and bulky and odd shaped compared to a ninja.

The power is pretty much unreal as anyone would expect. Engine and drive train are the smoothest I have felt on any motorcycle yet, but I've never owned something like a BMW shaft drive or a belt drive harley.
This thing is the well oiled machine I've always wanted for sure. Smooth as a babies behind. Fits my height perfectly, not too small, not too big, perfect. Like a glove. I actually need to raise the forks and rear suspension if I were to bring it to the track.

I have a funky little noise in the headset that others seemingly have on the forums too that I Can't get rid of, but I'm gonna call down to Suzuki Monday because I Should be under warranty if it is actually a problematic noise.
Everyone tells me it's not but I don't believe it..

Here I am on video completing the DMV test.
First time through, I put my foot down. You can tell I was going slow and inconsistent that time. Second time through you can see I went through much faster, you can't tell but I did not put my foot down, and I cleared the test as you are supposed to by the books. You even hear me apply a bit of throttle on the way out of the course because I got happy and excited I did it.

Third run through I attempted to do the last portion of the test and would have failed it immediately.

It's pretty much a given that you are going to fail this test on your 600 or larger unless you have tons of practice at doing it.

What's worse, is my DMV test is on a hill making the bike roll fast down one side of the circle and slow up the other side giving you two easy times to fall off the bike. You are absolutely working every muscle in your body, every control on your bike and every skill in your head to make it work.
Head turned, correct lean, tough balance, tough angles to handle the controls... just funky all around on this machine. This test is designed to make you fall.

Hell, the older heavier ones are more comfortable. Just try for fuel injection at least.

The best looking ones were the old SRAD like the 99. This one ^ was a 2003.
