Pre-gen at WSIR track day?
Has anyone taken their pre-gen 250 to WSIR for a track day?
How did it go? Was it fun? Or were the closing speeds in Turn 8/9 too high to be safe? I'm going to WSIR March 30 with Ti2TT and I am debating if I take the 250 or the 600. C group is sold out and I'm whiny-pants when I get passed too closely. Advice please! |

I don't know about WSIR but closing speeds are normally a total NON issue on any bike. If you feel uncomfortable, have the control riders put a orange vest on you. The corner workers should be doing their job as well. There is protocol for that kinda stuff.
And don't be a whiny-pants, go faster and pass em back in the corners.

It's been..... probably around 2 years now, actually, but I've taken my new gen there a few times before, which isn't really any different power wise at least. If you want some practice riding the 250 with the throttle pinned for 90% of the track, WSIR is good for getting used to completely tapping out your bike. I honestly thought the track was fun on a 250, just because it was the first track that I felt completely comfortable going flat out through multiple corners on, as you just can't really make the bike go fast enough to be in much danger for a good amount of the track, and it's fun if you want to learn more about the importance of aerodynamics. I liked it in the sense that it's something different.
But as far as closing speeds, a blazing 250 pace is a mediocre everything else pace, so chances are likely you won't get the fun of passing anyone back in B group unless they're on a 250 also. The closing speeds will likely be pretty substantial, but I felt like the track was wide and open enough that it wasn't particularly unsafe, especially since, on the 250, you can pretty literally enter turn 8 from anywhere and not be in any danger of running wide. I'd say take the 250 just for something different. I mean, the 600 is obviously a much better choice, but you've already been there and done that plenty of times, so..... SHAKE IT UP! |

Ya, so I wanna take the 250 for turns 2, 3, 4, & 5. But I want the 600 for 6, 7, 8, 9, the front straight, and 1. I'm concerned that speeds in 7 through the front straight are 135-150 mph and I can't get the 250 over 95. I'm leaning towards the 250, but seriously concerned about the idiots around me mis-judging the speed difference. The poor bike was WOT all day at Buttonwillow, but once I got used to it it was pretty fun. I just don't want another Dunlop enema!

Tires have been switched. I have a 07 GSXR rear shock in route and I'm picking up some stands from KK. Once I have the stands I can build up the front end which will be nice.
Took it out to chuck on Friday and had some issues holding my line north of 85/90mph. Pretty excited to get everything together and see if the bike will hold a line through 8 at the big track. |

I'm also a little concerned that the bike is a pre-gen and Christian (punkasfcuk) was dragging the exhaust at Buttonwillow...

Well never mind on that one. Just went to sign up and B is also sold out, so I guess no play time with the cookie monster.

No I didn't wait-list it. Once I seen the sale out ,I bailed out. Just went ahead and registered for a different event so no big deal. I'll try to catch up with you for the April 27/28 T.X. day.

No conundrum my dear, IT'S THE BIG TRACK! "fastest track in the west"! Gottz to take the 600 and has fun. Was just chatting with KK the other day about T-8 and the absolute rush/pounding heart/ most exciting thing since sliced bread turn that it is and I actually started missing my R6 a tad.
I say unless you or Oli plan to start raisin with MotoYard, just go to have fun. 250 for the tight tracks and 600 for the fast ones. |
