Question NOT what you want in your carb

As I'd posted earlier, I was wondering why my 2000 EX250 would not start or run without choke. I figured since the bike sat for a long time before I bought it just after xmas, the carbs needed to be cleaned. So I removed the carbs, took off the tops to check the internals and much to my surprise, here's what I found in the left side carb (as you're seated on the bike). Amazing the bike ran at all.
Now, it might be possible but I can't imagine this damage would happen in regular use of the bike. The diaphram is chewed up along the edge and torn right through in a couple places. Some 'person' did this then put it back in the carb and put the carbs back in the bike. Who would do that?
The previous owner sold it because: "I just couldn't get it to run right."
Ya think?
So I'm doing a full carb rebuild since anyone who would put this diaphram back in a carb in capable of anything. I'll keep you posted on what other infamy I come across.

Some people ought to be bull whipped. They might learn not to do such stupid things, and thereby protect the unsuspecting.

Hopefully, that's all the surprises you'll find!

that's what happens when you try and run nitrous

Sucks because that part is so expensive you can probably find full carbs used for cheaper, but then you'll be wondering if they are any good.

I saw the diaphragm on ebay for $34. Can the diaphragm be removed from the slider? Doesnt seem possible on this one without tearing diaphragm.
Is there some method that's not apparent?

Not that I'm aware of. The bike will not run right with that torn. You're best bet is to buy a used set of carbs off eBay.

So what's the deal with the high-priced diaphragms?

My 39 year old defunct british sports car has a pair of constant velocity (CV) side draft carbs. I can buy a diaphragm for it for less than USD $10. What gives with the Kwak diaphragms? Are they "special", somehow?

You could just buy one side of the carb and Frankenstein it back together or just buy a whole set so you have extra parts. Ebay is full of used carbs and carb parts.

Saw this:

I know at least one user put new rubber on his existing slider. Was it you, @cuong-nutz?

Edit: Found the thread.
