Quick poll about gear

This isn't an argument about gear or no gear, it's simply a question about how you perceive the gear you wear.

My gear is hot on a hot day, but I will not ride without it. I feel more confident while wearing it. Confident riders are better riders.

I would rather sweat than bleed.

I don't think any helmet, jacket, boots, pants, or gloves that are meant with safety in mind will ever fit well enough so that you forget you have them on...

All of my gear fits great but definitely doesn't feel like I'm wearing running shorts and a t-shirt...that is when I forget I have something on

Just as in political polls its all about how the question is worded.
This is laughable if you have been following the "other" thread.

The question stands exactly how it is stated. You're the one attaching a hidden message to it.

I stated that gear can be restrictive and you stated that no it can't be. So I'm asking the forum population for their opinion.

Why even ask the question? If your gear is restrictive, makes things hard to hear, see or feel then don't wear it! You need to stop riding until you find gear that you feel comfortable in and protects you.

Everybody's body fits gear differently. I think it is very important to not just rely on reviews about a brand or model but to actually try things on. For example, gloves, I realized that A*, while super protective and a great brand, just doesnt fit me as well as some other brands like RevIt. It's just the way they design the shape of their gloves. I'm sure there are A* gloves that fit even better than my RevIt but I havent found them yet.

Moral of the rant, if gear doesnt feel comfortable enough to be forgotten while worn, look for better fitting gear.

Exactly Brian. That is why I will never buy gear over the internet or through a catolg. I have to try it on and feel oh it fits on me. If I like it then I may look for a good deal online but try to buy it where I tried it on to keep them in business and to enable them to keep stocking gear.

I think it's a good idea to go to a store, find what you want. Then go online with all the product names, and see if you can find it for cheaper.

Not such a good idea for that store, though. I do a whole bunch of online shopping, but if I'm going to try something on locally and they have a reasonable deal on it, why not. There's a reasonable argument to be made that if nobody shops locally, in due time there won't be a way to shop locally.

Kinda like what's happening with Borders and Barnes and Nobles. I tend to buy gear in stores and performance mods online.

Factor in shipping charges depending on your location and it usually evens out. If you have to return it for any reason, online shopping tends to be more expensive.

Most brick n mortar stores have overhead to pay (building rent, utitities, cost of labor, etc) so they will have to compensate for that cost by charging higher prices to stay in business. There's still their supply chain as well, which both online and physical stores have. So I bet if stores advertised their price and added on the cost of shipping to the label price, you'd still see the prices higher at the brick n mortar. Whether you pay UPS/FedEx to take it back or you drive it back yourself (thus incurring the "shipping cost" upon yourself), the online store will usually always be cheaper. Online stores simply don't have the cost of maintaining a traditional storefront. Even the cost of webhosting would be cheaper than paying for a building.

That said, there is a benefit to the consumer to physically visit a location and shop for tangible items. In certain situations, that option is more appealing to me. Such as trying on and buying gear. ;P

I agree. But I have found that my local store is so overpriced that it makes no sense . I prefer the online store that I feel good about supporting, as many of you know, Motorcyclegear.com. I just saved $80 on my new helmet, and the expiration is the same month and year.
