Rural Maryland

Here are some pics from my ride today. Rural Maryland about 1hr northwest of Washington, DC. Maybe I will keep updating this thread as the landscape changes with the seasons.

Also if you are in the area, of course, open invitation to join me. I stop frequently to take pics, though. Today I was mostly in Dickerson and Point of Rocks.

I was paying less attention to the road than I should have, looking for places to take pics, and I almost missed the road turning sharply to the left, so I hit both brakes in an attempt to slow down before letting off and then turning... oops, locked the rear wheel and slid like 30 ft. I just changed the brake fluid yesterday and made my rear brake 2x more effective. No harm done, just straightened up and continued on my merry way.

It was about 65 degrees and sunny. I wore my SKI PANTS yes ski pants, with sweatpants underneath; a tank top, light sweater, heated vest, and windproof jacket. Scarf and heated grips. I was comfortable. Keeping myself warm is an arduous task...

Rode today with @scorch leading and a couple other people, one on a Ninja 250 and the other on an older VFR750 and scorch on his BMW. so we had Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and BMW! my bike is a little bit of a camera whore... it was about 41 degrees and cloudy. I need to get some better gear.

Only took a couple pics today. It was unseasonably warm (almost 70) so I rode about 100 miles up near Damascus, MD. Was in Howard, Frederick, Garrett, and Montgomery counties! Lots of **** in the road from the recent high winds and last night's rain storm, and it's white tail deer mating season so the pace was leisurely which is always fine with me... Didn't see too many other bikes, only cruisers and one Ducati Monster 796 and a Kawasaki ZR7. I hate how brown everything looks.

I used to live in Montgomery Co, (Bethesda). Very cool riding near Brookeville, Damascus, on up to Cockeysville.
Used to love the Leesburg Va. area as well. Was amazing to think you could be so close to an uber congested area like DC, yet be so close to the country...

^so many nice roads by cockeysville. One of my favorites in that area is a road that allows you to see all the mansions in a neighboring town. It's always interesting to look across the land of the super-rich.
It's a beautiful area in general too with some roads that you would never expect, though gravel is a very real hazard when you leave the well trodden path.

We lived near Georgetown Prep, then when we got married (76) we lived in Aspen Hill, but I was raised right off Beach Dr near the Mormon Temple in Kensington. Almost my entire whole Family ended up in Raleigh, eventually. We all had just had enough of metro DC.

It wasn't me! I was stuck in the office all day.

Not looking forward to the snow tomorrow. I know I said that I'd put my bike away after the first snow, but I'm not ready! I might have to wait a few weeks and see how December goes. I really don't want to deal with road salt.

catseye, I know exactly where that is. how's your family liking Raleigh instead? I think about moving, constantly.

I know it wasn't you jason! don't put your bike away yet... it's going to be in the high 50s this weekend. just hose down after a salty ride, and lube your chain a lot.
