Need help!
hey guys so i recently purchased a ninja 250. the bike has been sitting forever and has ton of miles on it like 54000. i havnt tried to start the bike yet i did an oil change and changed the filter so far next thing i noticed that the coolant reservoir is empty do i have to do a flush? or could i just fill the reservoir up with coolant? also what else should i check and do before i start up the bike? the person i bought it from the bike runs fine thou but he hasnt started it forever either. im really hopping bike will start up and run healthy really looking forward to riding it

Since you don't know what coolant is in the system, best to flush out whatever is left and fill it up with new stuff. That'll avoid mixing types. Someone else will have to step in with any info for old fuel or carbs.

Welcome Karan! When in doubt, I would plan on a full flush and fill of all fluids. Gas, oil, coolant and brakes. After the brakes and oil, you're free to try to start it up.

This is a 2012 bike with 54,000 miles on it???? Going by your sig...
Or is this a different bike you're talking about? Age and disuse are bad for anything made of rubber and any volatile chemical (hoses, gaskets, spark plug wires, carb diaphragms, tires, oil, gasoline, etc.). If it really truly hasn't run in a very long time I'd suggest pulling the plugs out and spraying a bit of fogging oil in both cylinders (or just putting a bit of oil in there) and pulling the engine through by hand for a minute or two. That way at least you'll have some lubrication in the top end before firing it up. Change all fluids. Clean it up as best you can. Inspect thoroughly for cracked rubber and insulation, hard hoses, etc.

I was wondering that too.
54k on a 2012 and "hasn't started it in forever" doesn't quite jive. I would imagine someone riding it that much would have that thing running constantly. Unless he did one EPIC road trip over 2012/2013 and then garaged the poor bike. Or, it is simply a misread if 5,400.0 which could happen too.

If it hasn't been moved every now and then or on stands. Depending on tire make and model, they are gunna be flatspotted like hell for any amount of performance riding.

Haha yea it's 2012 with 54000 miles lol insortandidnt knownit had that many when I bought it. But yea the bike looks it's been sitting I will try to attempt to do a flush anybody knownanreallyngood guide

agree with all info posted above re changing ALL fluids (include fuel)
additionally...be aware...outdoor storage (under cover) creates ideal conditions for the creation of moisture and condensation to occur. Water pooling in tank (leading to rusting, especially at the lowest points of the tank...the seams) condensation in carb float bowls....binding friction areas of cables, pedals, levers... tire/rubber inspection. ALL must be addressed before the motorbike can be considered "safe to ride". Don't know if your particular bike ever saw the inside of a garage or not... as the old adage goes....just sayin'.
