Flexibility and Mobility
What do some of you racers do for being more flexible and more mobile on the bike while racing. or is it that you are just naturally flexible?

Lots of sex, the gym, and ride a dirt bike often should keep you mobile.

I AM naturally really flexible, but setting that aside- Yoga seems to be more popular than expected in the racer world. I've actually had two different race schools warm us up with yoga exercises and recommend them as a regular pre-race ritual, and a couple of my racing buddies have also started doing it with good results. Definitely recommend it.

Taekwondo serves me well. Twice a week at a pretty high level of intensity.

Do you really need to be that flexible to race? I've never been on a track before, and Im also still really young.

go for a ride stay in full tuck, see how easily you can slide side to side on the bike while keeping your chest on the tank. For me my body does not like to move like that.

Flexibility sure as hell helps if you crash. Injuries tend to be less damaging than they would have been otherwise. Simply by living an active lifestyle, one will maintain some flexibility. Throw stretching, yoga, or other gym routines in there to increase flexibility.

I have an issue with turning right because my left hip does not want to allow my left leg to fully extend. Meaning I can't hang off the bike as much.
Doctor's tell me I need to re-align my spine to potentially help with this- chiropractic, stretching, and core strength building were all suggested. I tend to just stretch and complain. |
