Cool stuff you made from motorcycle (or auto) parts
Lets see what kind of neat stuff you've made from old/greasy/dirty/beat-up parts.
A friend gave me an aluminum Mercedes V8 block that had some issues - and I made a table out of it for the shop - also made this clock from a Porsche 911 cooling fan that I posted in another thread - Got a couple other ideas, and a bunch of parts laying around, but lets see what you guys have done. |

Let me know if anyone has any ideas for something cool that can be made from old batteries (car or bike).
Same goes for brake pads. |

Ok, the Merc engine block table takes the cake.
My Grandfather made a mail box post out of an Oliver tractor straight 6 crank shaft. this isn't vehicle part related, but a friend made this for me out of some .44 mag pistol cases (she called it the protection collection) \ and this is a lamp that used to be a clarinet (well still is, you can take it apart and play the instrument if you like)

Then, with a steady hand and an engraving attachment on your dremel, make birthday cards or a keychain or something. I made sheet metal valentines a few years back. Everyone loved 'em. |

Oh, and if you do the battery thing, be careful. I think I remember something about lead acid batteries giving off fumes that could be harmful if you're in an enclosed area with it for too long.

The block is completely aluminum (no steel liners either), so one person can pick it up pretty easily. I wouldn't have wanted to prep and powder coat a standard cast iron V8 engine block. |

A friend of mine needed a coffee table. So I (we) made one for him using part of an elevator from a 1950s Cessna 170 and the supports are made from a part off a 1947 Navion

I love it, Jay!!! Keep showing off stuff as you make it/as you think to share it with us. Brilliant!!
I snagged a small rotor out of a Terry Turbine for a coworker a couple months ago to make a clock out of. They're about 8" diameter or so. Will look neat! I'll have to see if he's finished it yet or not |

OK, so here's what I've been kicking around for my next project.
A lamp from either the Ducati 350 head/cylinder on a base (that needs some extreme trimming and cutting) or a couple of HD cylinders with one turned upside-down on the other. I've been looking for the right HD cylinders, but no luck so far. The one pictured took an incredible amount of time to get nice-looking highlights on the edges of the cylinders as they are pretty rough and uneven castings. I have a set of HD Twin Cam jugs with milled fins, but they are wider and more squat - which doesn't look quite right. I've been told Evolution jugs are what I want - same height and width as the ones I like but milled fins. I picked-up this brushed metallic-looking shade to use either way. It's an unusual plastic that's actually partially transparent. I might go with the Ducati head/cylinder in black with highlights, but it's going to be a tough one to do based on the size and shape of the finning and how it tapers off on the top of the head. Still trying to decide... |

Helmet clock
Back in the day I had my Pontiac 421HO/SD block, that I used as wine rack, while I was waiting for other parts, unfortunately no pictures of that.

Dremel out slots in between the fins and stick the light bulb in the jug.... IE, the jug as the lamp shade. Put it on a crank or camshaft to a an old rotor or sprocket. Then spray it with battery acid and leave outside for a few weeks. Freeze the rust with a clear epoxy. It'll look like something from 20,000 leagues under the sea!

Here was my first coffee table for my dorm! Made from the vertical fin of a 1962 Cessna 150, and also made a decent sled when we had a few inches of snow
I also have a ridiculous number of old/unusable aircraft cylinders that would make really cool lamps. But never any time to mess with it. |

Haven't done many personal projects lately, but did finish a stand for my shop "greeter", using a SV650 wheel and some steel pipe -
My MV Agusta greeter/clock combo - Picked up this set of MV leathers off of CL for cheap. They don't fit me, but I though they looked cool. Seemed like a good place to use my helmet clock too. |
