MSF question
So I just started a new job (woot!!!!!) It's full time 2nd shift though, this means I am not sure if they will allow me to take a friday off to take the full 3 day course (something I will ask at orientation) I saw that there is a beginner 2 "licence waver" course that is one day 8 hours and requires you have your own bike. Is this course just as good? Has anyone taken one of these?

It seems that that course requires "A valid motorcycle permit, license, or endorsement."
https://training.msf-usa.org/res/str...8lcFDrOw%3d%3d The Basic Course must be 15 hours, which some providers split in two days: Saturday and Sunday.

Basic courses around here are either a "3 day" which is Friday evening, all day Saturday, part day Sunday or "2 day" which is 8+ hours each day, often available in the middle of the week.
My course was a 3 day, my daughter and one son was a 2 day on the weekend, and my other sons was a 2 day on a Monday, Tuesday. |

Worth asking but i think you will still need to take the DMV (or equivalent out there) test. The BRC2 won't have the test for the waiver, at least not the one i took here.

Looks like IL requires a 20 hr course which is usually Friday evening, all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Probably not going to work with your job. If you are in IN it looks like their course is 15-20 hrs, but they offer some 4 day courses from 8am to 1 PM each day, which would work for you. Bad news, the next one of those available is in September. |

You just got a new job, and have a previously scheduled commitment. let them know, If possible, any new employer should respect the previous commitment, and respect you for upholding your prior commitment.

Just show up early to the convenient one if it's not too far. There's bound to be a no show. That's how I got in.

Last minute cancellations are common and the provider may give a discount to whoever covers those in a short notice.

WHAAAAT What kind of job is this? What if you were dying and you had to call in sick? What if you had already planned a vacation before you were hired? What if a close family member/friend died? They won't let you take ONE day off? That's great you found a new job & you're excited about it, but I just think that's a crazy rule.

Dying? Then they need a replacement anyway. Planned a vacation? Why didn't you disclose it prior to the offer? Close family died? That'd be covered by the company's bereavement policy in my industry. Separate from normal PTO. From my perspective, starting off with 'I need to do something other than start working on the start date we agreed' is not sending a positive signal. ..but I'm a little off topic.

My employers have all spoiled us I guess!
They understand that things come up and if you have to take a day off or call in, they're ok with that. They trust us to get the job done. And no one has ever abused this "privilege" But this is going off-topic. But I am curious as to why it wasn't brought up when you were offered the job..? Weren't you registered for the course already? |

Anyway this is a bit off topic. I'm in the process of waiting to hear back from my school I signed up with. They will allow me to change what class I'm in, and they said it is very likely they will start offering a Saturday Sunday course very soon. So yay me |

While it may not lead to your license, see if you can get some private instruction from an MSF coach to increase your skills while you are still on your permit. Ride on your permit until you can take the class you need in September. Or if your state allows just take the license test. Several of our bike schools around here offer "Head Start" or private one on one lessons. |

I know, and I'm glad you found a great job!
I'm also saying that a good employer will honor your perviously planned commitments. I once had a coworker newly hired go on vacation her second week because it already been planned months prior. It was never counted against her. Just letting you know for the future unless you plan on staying at this job forever |

You seem motivated enough to get to a working solution OP. All in due time I'm sure.
