Looking at the first pic you posted of the original two, your knee is on the ground and the bike is hardly leaned over. What this tells me is your butt is waaay off the seat. Definitely more than one cheek off. When I work with others and I see this on track, it almost always has the same result: head in the cockpit and holding on too tightly with the hands/arms. It's a compensation pattern. You'll never get your head over and down (and sustain it throughout a full track day) unless you start training for riding like a moto gp racer every day, OR, you get your butt back in the seat further. I recommend option #2. It takes an incredibly strong core to hang more than a cheek off for the duration of a track day without hanging on with the upper body. |

GoKart Track
First time riding the 250 on track. I've ridden my 636 several times on track, the 250 was a fun experience. New racer school this Friday on it.

Memorial Day weekend at Palmer Motorsports Park.
Orbiting in to the apex at the steep uphill Turn 4, so the bike has yet to reach full lean. My puck at apex that day was generally running about an inch off the ground, based on other photos. I'm pretty pleased with my progress. Inside foot position looks good, spine is clearly inside of the bike centerline and close to parallel. There's still too much tension going on, and that has me feeling a bit bound up. You can see it here... my upper body isn't really relaxed. Need to get that elbow out a bit more and relax across the upper back. Drop that inside shoulder.

Nice!
Once again your assessment looks spot on. Your elbow getting out the the knee area should be a product of RELAXING and getting the shoulder lower. You called it. Can I offer you a stepping stone to the next level? When I see this, I normally break this into 2 parts. They can be flipped in either order because each person is different but I always start with the skill part. 1. The skill part - What is going through your mind right now? ie... Is your mental processing out far enough that "the moment" is already planned and all you have to do is execute. You know your vision should be 2 steps ahead of your inputs but what about your mind? Hint: Most of the time, my brain is at least 1 corner ahead. Executing is fine and all, but are you COMMANDING the bike or is still a blend? Which leads to #2.... 2. Your tact and eagerness to execute - It looks like you have an outstanding ability to follow through on the skill side of riding but how bad do you want it? Next time you look at your best photos, see if you can remember feeling the "passion" in the moment at the time of the photo. Well done sir!

You nailed it. I'm all about #1 and working on #2 (hmmm... perhaps I should rephrase that...). That weekend's coaching was a great help.

Still struggling to get my inner leg positioned right I think, knee definitely looks way less out/down than it feels when I'm riding.

Re the knee... Look at your foot. It's still parallel to the centerline of the bike.
Try putting the tip of the peg under your toes and rotating your foot so your heel is hard up against the heel guard. Observe and compare: Go sit on your bike and try it. It makes getting your leg out MUCH MUCH easier. I also see you doing what I'm doing with your shoulders (see the post above... the view from the rear). You're tense across your upper body and holding yourself up with your arms. Try to drop the inner shoulder. Sticking your inside elbow out and doing the "screwdriver grip" thing will help. I'm finding it hard to put this into practice... I keep having to remind myself. When I've gotten it right, it feels really different... as if I'm hugging the bike, and it really feels like I'm underneath it. (I'm not, but that's the sensation.)

For example, I don't put my heel against the rearset guard, I put it on the swingarm itself to feel what it is doing. It is one of the many soft contact points the rider may have with the hard parts of the bike to determine what is really happening. While I don't do it for every corner, I do it from time to time as conditions change. aka... I look like the rider Mr. Fist posted a pic of as conditions dictate. Lemme know and I can post some pics of what repeated riding like this does to your boots, the bike and the riders feet.

New to the forum so here's a few pics from my recent track days. I've been racing with MCRA in the mid-west, looking forward to getting some racing in with trackaddix and CCS soon as well. Hopefully make my way out to the west coast some day. Lot of fun tracks out there!
A lot more on my Instagram @cameronjones239. (Don't normally wear a varient unless on the street, threw it on for one session. I was curious how it did at speed and it really wasn't too bad) |

I'll be missing out on next weekend (Aug 5th) since it's the same weekend as gateway with MCRA. If I wasn't in the points chase I would head north but its tight right now and can't afford to miss it. As of right now it looks like I'll be shooting for the September 23/24th event with track addix.

Coworker was visiting the track and took some photos of me during my track day yesterday. Still waiting for the 'official' shots but for amateur pit-side shots these aren't bad. Don't know how well my BP shows, sadly.

First track day of the season, six months after total left knee replacement. I thought my BP would suck because I was feeling kind of stiff.
But evidently not. All that focus and practice paid off. Was feeling very smooth and stable all weekend. Just need to keep ramping up the aggressiveness and get deeper into it. I'm now in the second-fastest of four groups run my my track day org. Towards the back of that group, but I'm passing a few here and there.

I got this photo and some video from my last track day at heartland park. I tried a swing arm mount with my go pro. Kinda cool but pretty repetitive. I cut it down to just over 1 lap.
