Choke not working properly
So my bike is running very stable. Starts up every time and everything is fine, but just my choke doesn't work that well. I always have to turn the idle screw 4 full turns with the choke on just for it to be able to idle at 2000rpm. I could run on choke without turning up the idle but it is idling at 700 rpm stuttering. Once it gets a little warm the bike idles very well. It started right after I cleaned the carburetor last time.
What do you guys think could be the cause of the problem? |

Hi, are you pulling choke lever all way back to max until it stops?
is your choke cable positioned properly at carbs? Should have ferrule fully seated in lever with cable-end seated in stop. Cable should pull on lever about 10mm when you pull on lever fully. |

I think I hooked it like that but I'll double-check.
Valves are in spec ducatiman: I dipped it in solution. Do you think it wouldn't have cleaned it out? |

not necessarily...a very long fixed "jet", they can clog up pretty good, takes a good poke with guitar string to fully clear them.

One recent case had choke-jets so plugged up with dried petrol, even guitar wire couldn't clear. Had to drill out with micro-bit!

Ducatiman is really the superman around this site. It was that little choke hole, cleaned it out with a copper wire and choke cleaner. it worked. Finally got both good idle and choke running at the same time.
**choke problem is solved** Two more problems though. 1. When I opened it though there was a lot of white rubber like residue on the butterfly valves, how could prevent that from happening? 2. I have another problem though a non starting issue. My gas tank had to be welded from the petcock side because the factory nut inside cracked. Long story short after tapping those holes they are weren't perfect straight and the tap screw wasn't as perfect as the factory holes. Now I put a Nitrile rubber gasket in between the bolt and nut but the rubber keeps deteriorating from gas. Do you guys know a rubber like material that won't deteriorate from gas? I'll make another thread for this Thanks everyone!! |
