I stopped by a BMW dealer yesterday and oh boy....

is the new S 1000 RR sweet

The one bike they have is for demos looks like the photo above. The owner of the store said that BMW is not giving keys to the dealers till after the US press day next week.

Now the real shocker. He asked me what I rode and how long I had been riding and after I answered he invited me to demo the thing in two weeks. GULP

Should I??????

Looks-wise, I think that bike is just ok. It's such an R6 rip-off it's not even funny.

Yea, it does. However, I think all the RR's look somewhat alike. Form follows function.

But, the Beemer is a jewel (think Ducati, etc) compaired to its eastern breathren. The fit, finish and bling are outstanding IMHO. Photos do not do it justice.

All the reviews are postive that this is THE bike for this year.

I hope they demo them at Bike Week. I'm definitely taking one out for a spin.

Noted. My original statement was slightly tongue in cheek. I might try out one of their slightly smaller bikes first Rain mode is 150hp.

The reviews are hot. Keith Code is going to be using them at his superbike school. The asymmetrical fairing seems a bit odd.

saw it at Indy GP. Very nice bike. All reviews agree that its the business and will give the liter crowd some serious trouble. I still would rather have an RSV4 Factory.

Just test the min/max throttle positions, then keep it at or below 1/4 throttle. It isn't that hard.

Yea that paint scheme is uuugly. I wouldn't let myself anywhere near a 600+CC bike right now. I would kill myself/end up paying a lot of money to repair their demotorcycle. but that's just me of course...

It is an awesome looking bike. BMW builds some very technoligicly advanced bikes.

To answer your question I say go ahead and test drive it. If I had the chance I would.

Of course he invited you to test it, your ride it, your impressed, you want it and at some stage down the line you end up buying a bike from him

I bet if you tested an R1, ZX-10, Fireblade or Gixxer you'd be just as impressed, all the reviews say it is the best of the bunch, but only by a tiny margin. If the big 4 where doing 2010 updates it might not be the case, but right now the big 4 is the big 5

I don't like the odd headlights, even if it does save 0.000001 of a gram anyway I can't move up for at least another couple of years, and then its going to be either a 09 zx6r (or 11 if its as good) or a Daytona 675. Or who knows BMW may have a nice middleweight by then.

Just my opinion but still looks over engineered. Kinda like the new GSXR's do.

Just an opinion. Everyone has a bike they really like the looks of. (for me that was the older GSXR's)
I don't like how the tail looks like broken shards of ice either. It doesn't look smooth and stylish to me. Also, too many holes in the fairings. Doesn't even look like a fairing.

Check out the F 800 st, with a bit of mods she is a sweet bike too.

Note this is the S model in the picture, my understanding is the ST just has higher handlebars and pegs.

Now get this, BMW offers a lowered seat height package for the F 800 that drops it to something like 29" talk about friggin sweet.

I guess they gotta be different though.

I can appreciate how that yellow bike looks in some respects for some reason.
I guess I'm just as weird as BMW.

I used to have the exact same sentiment towards BMW but they grow on you after a while. Especially when your browsing the BMW shop in the middle of winter and notice that most of the bikes come with heated grips from the factory and power jacks for heated gear (no wonder those bmw riders are out in all weather).

Oh I forgot to mention that the F800 has the gas tank in the tail section, another BMW oddity.

Yeah I remember one of the older guys at my old job drove a BMW to work every single day rain or shine in the SF east bay. Must be a reason he felt so comfortable doing so.

Heated seats? Sounds nice.

I always liked the one sided swingarms though. Those are a trip.

Is it me or does the F 800 ST look a wee bit like a 1st gen 250? Especially the nose / windscreen profile.

If I were to go in with my check book in hand, the 800 might actually be the one I'd settle on.

Of course, It needs to stop snowing here before I ride anything.

Hey no hard feelings on the BMW.
Didn't mean to come in here and bag on it, in case that's how I was seen. (definitely not my intention)
Just not my cup of tea. I need to learn to not say anything at all unless it's constructive.

I took a ride to my BMW dealer also (actually they have about 8 brands). No BMW literbike on display yet, but they had a Desmosedicci on a platform with one fairing removed (on loan from customer). As close to a race bike as I have seen on the showroom floor.

IMO the bike is UUUUUUUGLY. I'm a symmetrical guy, I'd prefer if one side is a mirror of the other. The headlights make me cringe every time.

Speaking of German engineering VW bought 25% of Suzuki Motorcycle.

Das Bike?
