09 ninja 250r Highway riding??

How many of you guys use ur ninjette for highway riding primarily???

I use my ninjette to ride on the highway about 90 percent of the time...
Will this harm my bike to have it so close to redline every day?

I usually cruise at about 65 to 70mph..
Just worried that the motor may give out on me one of these days...

At 65mph you shouldn't be at red line or anywhere near it. If you are then you need to stop using 3rd or 4th gear for those speeds.

The engine will be fine under the redline. That's why the redline exists. Redline is the rpm that the engineers who designed the engine determined it could safely run at without destroying itself. If it was capable of going bad by running at 11-12k rpm they would've set the redline there.

The lil ninja is not singing unless near redline. Just keep the oil checked and changed and your good to go.

I found highway speeds just a bit uncomfortable with stock gearing. A 15t front & 42-44t rear will calm it down ALOT for mainly highway riding.

Also, as many here have stated, if you change gearing. Do them one at a time (start with rear) so you find what you like best.

I have 16k on my '09.
We have to go 75 to 125 miles to get to the twisties and we rarely cruise below 75-80 indicated...last weekend rode about 140-160 miles around 85-90 on a smooth, pretty level interstate 90.
When i took her in for valve adj the mechanic said it was still within spec @ about 13k miles. In my experience....long high speed riding has had no bad effect on anything but MPG....which I have to guess could somewhat be due to a big shield and softer tires as well as ( if i remember right ) 16-41 sprockets.

I'm in the same boat as you...
on the freeway about 90%.
Did the gear change (15F/42R).
Now I get about 65mpg at 70-75mph

I'm running 15F/42R as well and my pre-gen does a 40+ mile commute each way every day on the freeway. My pre-gen cruises along at 70-80 mph with the RPM's between 9k & 10k no problem.

I commute every day on mine, i take it slow, i bounce it off the limiter and everything in between. the bike will be fine and the engine will be fine. These things are made to run at high rpms.

I rode my bike for a good 2-3 hrs+ at an average 50-75mph range with absolutely no problems. Still have half a tank!

Your bike is happy.

I use a 15T counter sprocket, which improves shifting in both city & hwy. It also will lower your RPM at a given speed by ~500. At that speed, with this set-up, I would guess your RPM would be around 8-8.5K in 6th gear. This isn't even considered close to redline on a sport bike. In fact, our bike isn't really that happy until it hits 8K RPM.

I also have, and recommend, a Throttlemeister. I don't get to use it on the HWY for commuting, but it is good for weekend trips.
