You're asking the wrong person cuz you're talking to a guy who drives the speed limit and/or just crawl through traffic without a care. In other words, I use said vehicle to get me from point A to point B as carefully as possible. So, I could care less.

On the track....well, that's a different story.

"more than adequate" is a matter of perspective and oppinion. adequate for what? a 50cc scooter is adequate. a bicycle is adequate. a pair of legs is adequate. a wheel chair is adequate.

I agree, if you need to "power out of" a situation, chances are you made some bad choices leading up to it. There are very very few instances where more power is the answer, but I will concede that they exist, no matter how small the percentage they may be.

It is all agreed upon that the 250 doesn't compare on the straights given experienced riders.

However, my friend is going to get his first bike, which will be a 600. I look forward to embarrassing him in the first couple of weeks.

Besides, 250 is adequate for my street riding purposes and I never felt the need to have more power than I currently have.

Here's how I see a 250 beating a 600 in a 0-60 drag race:

A guy who's never ridden a bike runs out and buys a 600 and lines it up on the track. A guy who's put 20,000 miles on his 250 last year is in the other lane. The light turns green, and the guy on the 600 guns it and flips it over backward. The guy on the 250 executes a perfect launch and finishes.

Just because a 600 makes most of its power up high in the powerband doesn't mean it makes NOTHING down low. I've seen way too many 600s rocket away from stoplights to ever think my bike would stand a chance.

I see this phenomenon a lot on car forums too. I know we all love our bikes here on Ninjette.org, but like in the car forums, a Kia Forte Koup is not going to outrun a new Camaro on its best day. Yet there are some guys on the Kia forum that swear they've beaten Camaros, G37s, etc with their cars. Here's a hint for them: The guys driving the other cars didn't know they were in a race.

The horsepower / weight ratios for these bikes speak for themselves - and say a lot more than anyone's butt dyno. 14lbs / hp for the 250, and 3.4 lbs / hp for the 600. There'll have to be some pretty extraordinary circumstances involved for a 250 to pull off a win.

I've decided to take my statment back on that my ninja 250r will do 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Not because I think I am wrong, but because I could be wrong. I guess technically I should have used a more accurate device than a standard stop watch before making any reply to this post or a by-the-seat-of-your-pants judgment.
Sorry to you all, and I guess I will look into this more for myself with proper equipment.
Could I get some good suggestions on what is the most accurate devies avalible to read a 0-60 mph pull from a dead stop that would be avalible on-line or at local motorcycle shop(s).
Thank's for any suggestions.

I'd think a stopwatch would work just fine...assuming you had someone else stopping and starting it. If you're riding for the fastest 0-60 time, I'd assume you'd be more concentrated on your riding than trying to fiddle with the clock.

Wow imagine how fast he could get to 60 if he wasn't fiddling with a stop watch at the same time, probably like 2.5 seconds instead! INSANE! Seriously somebody show me a ninjette that can hit 60 in even the low 5 second range and I'll be impressed

Edit: I don't know why I even bothered to post..

jaso, videocamera on the tank viewing the speedo, a GPS next to the speedo showing the speed also (because the onboard speedo is crap), and the view forward. after videotaping yourself from 0mph to 60mph, youll realize "3.5 seconds" is probably closer to "7.5 seconds"
rolling starts never count.

im so tired of these types of threads. its a 250. treat it like one. have fun with its lack of power. ride it like you stole it. you can do it legally on the 250. cant do it on a 600 without winding up going 140mph very quickly. you dont need to be fast to hang, bro. its a great looking, extremely well handling, light and nimble little bike.

a 250 is most definitely not a faster bike in any sense in any situation than a 600SS. (the only exception being a U-turn from a standstill)

noone is talking about rider skill because that has nothing to do with the bike. if you want to say you are better at shifting than some stupid squid trying to race you on a 600 (only a squid would try to race a 250 while on a 600 btw) then great but dont try to say a 250 is faster. its not. 250s are so much faster going INTO a corner because they are so light, you hardly need to brake. you also can dive super deep into corners since there's literally no power out of the corner. you don't need to setup late apexes as much since, again, no power coming out of a corner means your rear doesnt squat as much, meaning you can keep it leaned over longer keeping your speed. riding a 600 and a 250 around corners are two completely different things and you really cant compare them. to say that a 250 is faster because you can dive deeper is pretty ignorant in regard to ... i donno, maybe, the entire rest of the corner/track/road.

If someone bashed you for driving a 250, just tell them you've got a tape measure and to whip it out...

I've done this before.

So far no one has taken me up on it. Which is good because I really dont have a tape measure with me....

Unfortunately no one has taken me up on it.

However... I have pulled my pants off when my roommate in college tried to fight me for showing him meat spin, when it was disguised as a phone trace site. It was awesome.

I pulled my pants off and kept saying "you gonna fight a naked guy?! you gonna fight a naked guy" while making inappropriate movements.. Never fought him.

All this this thread needs is for someone to ask if they should turn their 250 into a dedicated track bike.
