Haven't particularly tried to wheelie, and probably won't..however the front comes up (slightly) when getting on it from 1st to 2nd. This really scared me cause the first couple times I did it, as I was actually taking turns.

I've accidentally lifted the front about an inch when I launched hard a couple times.
Wouldn't really call that much of a wheelie though, more like just too much clutch on my part. |

Yeah, you can clutch up about 2 1/2 feet in first just sitting down. I got it to the balance point once while standing on the passenger pegs. I should have taken a video of it. But yeah, as stated above, go check out youtube. There's lots of people wheeling these bike there.

I can make the bike do a backflip on the stock gearing.
Rev to redline and dump the clutch as fast as you possibly can. You might end up back on your two wheels. lol But in all seriousness, yes it stands right up on the stock gears if you know what you are doing. Lean back, grow some balls and use some throttle. Cover the rear brake in case you go too far. Step on it. If it's not coming up, you're not dumping the clutch right or fast enough. Much funner and safer when you modify it into a real stunt bike though.. slow big gears and easy wheelies. The front brakes aren't so good for stoppies, but again it's perfectly possible there too. 250 is a good bike to learn clutch control for wheelies. Use one or two fingers on the clutch the rest on the grip. Keep your fingers away from front brake. Stay away from cars and off the main road, please. Using your powers to show off gets you in troubles. Keep them to yourself. Be safe, think about your family and friends and your beautiful bike.

Lol I tried riding a wheelie on my 250 last summer after about three attempts I got it up to the balance point in second. Then I got nervous a split second later and tapped the rear break a bit to hard.
Didn't crash but came real close as I slammed the front end down . Maybe work on it again this year but it's so much easier on my Mx bike lol |

Anyone else think a bike looks really good when doing a wheelie? Pulled a small accidental wheelie on an aggressive take off on my 500 yesterday, been practicing a little today (oh no, I might be catching squidism D only managed small front wheel hops so far, don't wanna break the bike

i would just like to point out a few things:
- there is no benefit from wheeling outside of the dirt - it does serious stress to your forks and will damage your seals as well as bend your frame and triples if you aren't perfectly smooth (as in- you haven't been doing it professionally for years) - i know several people who were "good at wheelying" who have wrecked while trying to wheelie. including someone on this very forum who just looped their bike doing it. - you can get wreckless endangerment tickets if a cop sees you doing it. - it makes you take off slower - you look retarded doing it

I think wheelies look cool. Well not when some idiot squid is half way to looping his stretched busa but when done safely and/or professionally, its pretty b/a. I need to get a small dirt bike or just an old beat up cheap 600

I've managed to lift the front, pretty much like the guy on the grid in the photo above. I was at an intersection, next to a dump truck in busy traffic.
Through the magic of incredibly poor clutch control I found myself looking at the sky and screaming "oh shiiiiiii...." It all ended ok somehow (not through my own skill, that's for sure), and I lived and learned. |

Doing wheelies on a 250, while fun is not recommended. Its a value bike and the parts just wont hold up. With that said there are a couple of types you can do.
The first one is a straight clutch dump, cruise at like 3 k in first gear, pull the clutch in take it up to 8-10k and dump the clutch, the front will come up and then slam down pretty hard. the bike doesn't have the power with stock gearing to hold it up or set it down all that smooth. Its fun but i would read the DIY on how to fix fork seals first so you know what you are going to need to do when you pop them (and you will) The second and it was my favorite was a clutch slip, you can do this one in first and second, to do it just cruise at around 4k very quickly gas it then pull in the clutch take it to red line then let the clutch go, how fast will depend on how warmed up your clutch is, these ones look really cool as they look more like a power wheelie then a lame clutch dump. The issue with these are it is hell on your clutch plates. So when you least expect it say coming out of the bowl at chuckwalla heading up the hill and your bike makes no power and you have to pull off the track and wait for the truck to come get you, you kind of feel like a douche. Then you have to order new plates and springs and let me tell you no one ever has them in stock. Then you will finally get them, load your bike up to go fix it and leave the plates and springs at home. Its cool though as you have friends that will go get them from your house while you go and get another friends bike. So you get the clutch taken a part and put the new ones in, but the damn thing is still not working. after a while you get pissed off and say **** it load it all back up and go to ihop for some pancakes. When leaving ihop said friend looks in his back pack and notices that one of the friction plates is still in there and that is why you could not get it to work. Ask me how i know :P |

I can answer this one. There are no major engine mods of any kind. That was my first time on the track on a 250 so I was unsure of the launch point and revs. It was also my first race ever. Excited about racing+Launch Revs Ignorance=Wheelie. That's the only wheelie I've ever done.

You can wheelie it with stock gearing all day.
Seat time is what it's all about. You're not going to learn wheelies very fast it's a process.

thinking about it... i wheelie about once a day while taking off quickly. if you launch at peak torque (11k, depending on tune job) with a smooth bite but quick let off it lofts the wheel slightly but doesn't slam it hard if you keep the gas pinned. note though, dropping the clutch at 11k will make the bike do a back flip.
