yet another clip-on thread, opinions?

Anyone use any of these ebay clip ons yet?

This one has no "offset", so they look like they need to be mounted on top of the triple tree. If they were mounted under, they look like they would hit the fairing.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261039952275...84.m1438.l2649

This one has an offset to clear the fairing but is non-adjustable:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330718959165...84.m1438.l2649

This one has an offset too and is adjustable;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/260980124982...84.m1438.l2649

I'm looking for some input on any of these clip on sets. I am well aware of the Woodward brand- I'm not looking to be steered toward something else. I was about to build my own clip ons until I saw these on ebay, the cheapest of which are similar in cost to me building my own.

Not only fairing mods, but gauge placement mods as well. See pics of my bike...it is not done yet.

These are standard, no-rise Woodcraft's.

Countersteer- do you have one of the ones pictured?

I was also thinking about mounting the "straight" ones above the triple. The set pictured on the bottom actually shows them mounted above the triple on the ebay site, but I would mount that set below.

Could you mount the second and third ones under the triple?

Is it better to mount them under the triple?

I have Woodcraft's which would most closely match the first picture. Just so you know what you are getting into if you go the way I have; I have at least 10 hours of work into what you see now to get the bars to function through their full range of motion and I still need to finalize gauge placement and fairing modification. It'll require some commitment. But when I ride my bike I have no regrets for starting down this road! It truly feels like a mini-supersport, especially now with the Racetech springs and GSXR rear shock. All these people talking about "moving up" don't know what they're missing! I just spent a year and a half and 12,000 miles on an '06 GSXR 600, so my perspective is a bit different than someone who has never spent time on a true supersport. I am really enjoying my little 250!

That thing that covers the triple tree seems to make the now-useless bar riser mounting holes more prominent.

No, man! That's so you can retain the stock bars in addition to the clip ons to compliment the optional forward foot controls they sell, you know, for all day touring comfort!

I think I am going to order a set of those clip ons .
If I dont like them on my ninja they will fit one of my other bikes.

But I really wanted to find a kit to mount MX style pro taper or renthal bars on my bike
but I think I am just going to try to make it cheap ridable for now/

Has anyone converted their ninja to mx bars on this site ?> I havnt found any in the search

i bought the set on the top, these;

I REALLY liked the middle set the best, IF I could mount them under the top triple. I wasnt sure if they would fit because of the top triple clamp. So just to be sure I didnt end up with something useless, I bought the top set. I wanted to have a set of clip ons mounted under the top triple, but as you can see I will have to mount these on top. Hopefully the bars will move forward and down enough that I will like the results.

I will be sure to post pics when I get them installed.

They are installed, pics to follow- theyre on my wifes phone. (This is her user name on this site, btw)

There were a few minor isues;

1)The first thing I noticed was the lack of a locating hole for the controls. No biggy, I just had to drill two holes.

2)When I measured for the holes locations, I noticed the second issue- the bars are about an inch shorter than the stock ones- which really crowds the grips, levers and controls while still leaving some bar end hanging out.

3) The last issue I had was that these bars are not 7/8" diameter like the stock bars. They measured at .869, which although is only 6 thousandths smaller- made the clutch lever difficult to install. I tightened it enough that the "pinch" was completely closed while the lever was still loose on the bar. I had to use a hack saw to widen the pinch, and was then able to tighten it down sufficiently.

4) Mounting on top of the upper triple tree REQUIRED the bike to be lowered about an inch. More below...

I mounted these on top of the top triple tree. Like I thought, theres no way they would fit underneath it. In stock form, the fork tubes protrude up through the top triple and into the stock bars almost a half inch. My wife is 5'-3", and we had already maxed the forks into the bars to lower the front about an eigth of an inch and lowered the back about a half inch. Once I took the stock bars off, I realized that the bike would need to be lowered more to use these bars mounted on top.

The fork clamp portion of the bars is about an inch and a half wide. There way no way I was going to only have it contact a half inch of fork tube. I lowered the bike so that 1.45" of fork tube sticks above the top triple, which still puts the fork tubes about an eight of a inch down from the top of the new bars. I really didnt want to lower the bike any more than that, plus I figured I could use that last 1/8" to find or make a cap for the top of the fork tubes. This might be easier to see in the pics than is was to describe in writing, and I promise pics will soon follow.

Aside from the above issues- my wife LOVES the bars! The way they look, the way the bike looks, her riding position, and the overall feel she says is great. She did say they felt a little more "buzzy", which i figured replacing stock steel bars with aluminum units but I will add some weights to the insides soon to aleviate some of that.

Anyone considering these bars can now know for sure that they;
1) lower the bars
2) move the bars forward
3) clear the bodywork just fine when mounted on top of the triple.

Bar end mod...

I used these in conjunction with the stock bar ends and they work well. One recommendation would be to put a coat of clear nail polish on the bolt head AFTER install to keep it from rusting.

See ebay link and pic of my bike...

Nice I ordered the same set' I was thInking about getting so
E 7/8 aluminum stock so I can cut my own bar length and if I must I'll mill it out to 7/8 on the clamp.

Where did you drill a hole to mount stuff? I don't understand that part?

Pic's!

Here are some pics.

This one shows the clearance between the grip and the fairing. Although the lever and controls look kinda close, there is plenty of room.

The first one shows how much the fork protrudes into the clip-on clamp. This is the least amount I felt comfortable with, hence the need to lower the bike.

And to those of you paying really close attention, yes- my wifes 250 has changed its color from red to purple.

The holes thatneed to be drilled are for the left side directional/horn controls and the right side throttle/start/kill switch. Each one wraps itself around the 7/8 bar, and clamps around it with two screws but inside the is a protrusion that requires a 3/16(?) hole to be drilled to keep them from rotating around the bar. Its no biggy, you'll see it when its apart- or at least notice it when it wont go back together correctly!

BTW- We are selling the stock bars if anyone is interested. The left side has a slight bend from a previous owners wreck (we never noticed it) that I may be able to straighten. The right side is in great shape. Includes stock bar ends and hardware. Make an offer, email to SBNova1@Gmail.com

Hi NikRN06,

could you post more picks of these bars? I'm thinking about getting them but there really isn't any extensive info on them other than your thread! Thanks!

has noone tried fitting handlebars from another bike ??

I use Honda Vtr "spada" 250 V-2 ones and they fit as if from factory... and results about the same as these last ones you talk about...

thing is they must be awfully cheap and easy to find...got mine for $15...
