So my turn signals were stolen...
I rode my bike about half mile today, and on the way home I noticed the turn signal indicator was off when I put the right turn signal on. I just figured a bulb was out, so I checked when I parked and both rear turn signals were gone. Only the wires were left hanging. I found one of the screws that hold them on next to where I always park.
I think someone may be slowly parting my bike out for me since my turn signals and cover have been stolen since I got the bike in September. Is there anyway to stop vandalism? Is it worth it to go to insurance? These are pretty cheap (I assume) and this may raise my rates if I go to them since it shows that, apparently, I'm in an area of high vandalism (small college town). Or, just a good excuse to come up with a flush mount solution? |

Your TURN SIGNALS were stolen?!?!?! WTF....who would want that? I smell drunken college students
Anyway...since you're missing a turn signal you might as well go the full flushmount route Edit: oh and definitely don't go to insurance about this....not worth it for turn signals IMO. |

Be glad it was only the turn signals, you could have walked out to an empty parking space instead (it really really sucks). I agree that some sort of alarm in a public area would throw off some thieves but don't count on it doing much at late night when nobody is around, it didn't even phase the guys who stole my R6.

Wasn't there a time when crackheads were stealing spark plugs off motorcycles for use as crack pipes? Maybe some crack hos thought the turn signals would work? I dunno -- I don't smoke crack so I wouldn't know.

I already have an idea for flushmounts. Quote:
I do park in the back of the parking lot, but the whole lot is lit up well. I park in the back so I'm next to a "Workers only" spot and no one ever parks there so its easy to get my bike in and out (I'm required to park the bike in the same spot as my car). I know there are about 5 around the area, but why would one of them need 2 turn signals? I understand needing one if you crashed... |

wow. that's a first. Never knew people would stoop that low... I mean stealing bikes I can understand (though obviously don't condone) but turn signals?!?! WTF! And they would've had to have stood there for a little bit unscrewing both sides...
sorry to hear it happen to you man. But now you have an excuse to pimp her up! |

****** buzz....
I asked my insurance company about vandalizm since I added it when I bought the new bike, and they said that depending on what I clame I should be able to make 3 clames or half the cost of the bike each year without my rates going up.... They just require a police report and such. |

Why the hell do people vandalize bikes? This isn't such a big problem with cages. But everywhere you go, bikes are getting jacked up!

I know this isnt considered vandalism really in my case, but it still pissed me off as if it had been vandalized.
But I went out to my bike about a week or two ago and I park it in a parking space here at my apartment(thats actually in a nice part of town) and someone had taken my mirrors and folded them into the bike and centered the bike further back in the spot. Someone had moved, touched, and groped my baby so that they could get their freaking fat hummer H2 into the handicapped parking spot next to me without hitting it with their army sized doors. I mean, Im glad they didnt wanna hit it. But dont touch mah bay-bay!!! and for the love of god, you're not handicapped, I saw you run to your hummer one day. I see through your disguise sir, I see...

I know its windy in ur area, consider an alarm any ways. Heres one with a pager that works up to a 1/2 mile. pricey but prob worth it. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/de...&related=short I've been looking at this one for a bit now and it is a pretty nice, loud alarm with all the bells and whistles. Tilt sensor etc.

Start carrying a motorcycle cover in a tankbag or tail bag when you ride, and use it.
Park in areas that are well-lit and have plenty of witnesses and traffic. You might also want to consider getting an alarm.

I had someone swipe my Spyder personalized plate about a week after it arrived. And what sucks is that in CA you have to have at least one of the plates to get a duplicate, however MC only have the one plate. Luckily I was able to get a replacement.
I suggest a cover with a cable lock alarm.

It would be nice if someone made an electrical device like an electric fence for vehicles. A good ZAP would be a great deterrent.

Someone once tried to remove and steal a half-fairing from one of my bikes. I found out about it when the windshield started wobbling like crazy on the highway and almost came off, which would have takem my head off with it at that speed. When I got it to the side of the road all but one of the fairing bolts was gone and the one that was left had no nut on it, so I dodged a major bullet. The next night (I was on Graveyard shift) I watched my bike in the lot where I parked it and at about 3AM a car stopped a block away and a guy started walking toards the bike. I called the cops and they actually caught the guy after a short chase. His trunk was full of bike parts and he had a theft record a mile long.

Get a cover (if you haven't already) and put a lock on it. Even if it's just a padlock, it'll keep the cover from "walking away" and slow them down for anything else. Making it inconvenient and/or obvious that they're not the owner is usually enough.

Those bulbs are pretty hard find in local stock. I had to order them, which is tough when the bike is your primary transportation.
Perhaps I should have resorted to this! |

They do I don't know where they sell them but they do sell them. My parents are ranchers/horse trainers and we were in Texas once looking at stock when I was young and the guy had his truck rigged so when he set his alarm it armed a shock (hot wire fence for livestock) devise that electrified his truck body... I guess ranchers out there when they are working with thier cattle and leave their truck arm this to keep cattle from rubbing on their trucks. Cows furr will rub the paint right off a truck. But it drains your battery also

that sucks, yet another thing to worry about. Can't believe someone would just grab your turn signals and go. I worry about that kind of thing happening to mine a lot since on a bike everything is kind of out in the open.

I realize that the thief was swiping acessories. You did mention that you park your bike next to your car--in the same space. It may not hurt to get a cable with a good lock and lock the bike to your car. Just make sure you don't pull out with your car while the bike is cabled to it.

Oh, and someone did mess with my bike that night. I had thousands of miles of road grime on the bike and someone wrote "hell" on the windscreen. I keep telling myself that they may have been trying to write "hello" and ran out of room! The only other incident in the year and a half since then was when the dumpster lid came off and hit the bike, so I'm guessing that the neighborhood is pretty safe. |
