Two fantastic iPhone apps for motorcycling
I'm not 100% sure where i should of posted this thread, its in relation to two great iPhone apps i've recently got,
The first one is MCN's Ride Logger, you start by opening it up, press start new ride, lock the screen and slip it into a pocket, once you finish your ride, press end ride, simple. It records data of your route, which you can bring up on a map, it also shows what speed you were doing at each point and how hard you were accelerating in G, you can also share all this information with your friends etc. over facebook, it also records stuff like top speed, average speed, how far you went, how long you were riding for, top G for accelerating and braking. Obviously there is a downside, as with helmet camera's where if the police find out your using it and ask to have a look, but its obviously pretty inconspicuous as its just a phone in a pocket, but I dont even know the rules about having to show them if they ask lol The other app is called Ndrive, I'm not sure if there is one for North America , I'm in the UK so im using the UK and Ireland one, but you can play music, start the app up and it will work while you are playing music in the background, making it quieter while it reads you directions, it also tells you when there is a speed camera up, with voice warnings, and tells you what speed you should be doing through the camera, it works just as well as my TomTom device, and this app only cost me £5 which I think is spot on! Obviously it uses more battery while you are using it, but ive just gone for a 3 hour ride as a test and it used just under half, so if you are lost somewhere it would be really useful for getting you back on track, or as long as your not going for hours, it will get you all the way to where you need to go!! Thanks for taking the time to read this, and i hope some people find it useful, Thankyou. |

it obviously runs down faster than normal, but from a full charge it would last 4/5 hours at my estimate, so if your just going for a decent ride it would be fine but for touring without power supply you might be pushed unless you could power it while riding somehow ?

The iPhone is a great tool for motorcycle riding.
I use the app Motion X GPS to do my GPS routes Also, look here for onboard iPhone charging. Then get a RAM iPhone mount and you're good to go. Takes the phone out of your pocket while you ride which is very annoying to have stuff in your pockets while riding IMO.

Ok....I changed countries to the UK, and searched for it, and found it at 4.99 pounds, 7.17 US dollars.....
Can anyone confirm if the UK version will work here in the US? If so, I am SO downloading it. |

it just uses the GPS function and the map is google maps, which you can obviously get in the US, I just checked and on the support part of the MCN website there is a review from a guy from Australia using it, so i would assume you could also use it in the US

Bryan, it looks like they just removed it from the app store (no idea why...). It was there a few days ago when this thread first popped up, but now it's not . It was $6.99 or $7.99 I believe.

Must-have iPhone apps for motorcyclists?
I've been trying to find a good app for tracking and suggesting routes, but I haven't seen too many good ones. Ideally, I would like to find one with a speedometer. I guess I'm basically just looking for a good motorcycle gps.
I'm also looking into getting a mount for my phone. I've got an Otter Box case that makes it kinda bulky, so I need something that will fit that. What would y'all suggest? |

I'm a Nokia fan and some of the apps I have that I find helpful are the stand alone speedometer app that utilizes my phone's GPS to track speed, my mpg app that I use during every fill up to keep tabs on mileage and of course, Nokia Maps (no data/internet charges) to get me to places. Not sure if you have to pay for GPS on the iPhones, but if you can find similar apps, they'll help you out a lot.

Diablo Super Biker. It tracks your route, speed and lean angle. But it doesn't display anything. You are supposed to turn it on, put it in your pocket and look at it after the ride.
greatest road motorcycle. It doesn't track anything, this app lets you submit and view routes other people have put in. You can then rate and comment on a route. |

Moto Minder and other iPhone apps?
Yesterday I made a technological leap and upgraded thrugh At&T for 99cents to get an iPhone 4. This is my first smartphone and I am pretty impressed! I downloaded the moto minder app and am loving it. Somewhat pricey at $2.99, but since that's about what I pay for the small notebooks (which I tend to misplace) that I keep my maintenance info in I was okay with the price.
Features (copied from the app store where it currently has a 4+ rating) - Manage Multiple Vehicles - Display Photo for Each Vehicle - Manage Multiple Services for Each Vehicle - Repair Log for Each Vehicle - Track Any Mods You May Make - Service Intervals for Mileage and Date - Lights indicating services that need attention - Maintain Complete Service History - Store Notes for Each Bike, Service and Service Record - Miles and Kilometers Option - Optional Built-In Services to Help You Get Started - Notification when services are due soon or overdue Anyone else find any any good/useful/cool apps for riding and maintaining motorcycles? |

It's not motorcycle specific, but Waze is a good free app for navigation. Get turn-by-turn spoken to you as you ride. It's cool if you like the world of social networking and connecting more than you ever should.

iPhone Apps For Riding?
Does anyone know of an app that will read incoming text messages to me on headphones?
Obviously I'm not interesting in sending them, but it would be a nice feature if there's some sort of emergency or a "can you stop and get milk" situation while I'm riding home. Anyone have any apps they use for riding in particular? I don't have a phone mount, and I'm not really interested in mounting my phone and having to look down to read incoming messages (huge distraction.) |

Haven't looked in iTunes, but android has one called DriveSafe.ly that will read texts and if you pony up the cost for the paid version you can speak to text back. Says something along the lines of "New message from so-and-so, whatever the text message says."
Downside is it requires data connection to translate so when I go bee bopping out into the desert sans signal, it doesn't work. But it does in town and stuff. Quote:
