Rode friends cbr600rr while friend rode my 250

We did a 150 mile trip and I rode his 2008 cbr600rr for about 15 mile. What I can say is I hated it. The power was nice and it may be that I'm so used to my 250. Corning was very hard and you had to pull the bike a lot to turn. The super sport feeling was nice but the bars felt to far from the seat area and I have long arms. Overall nice bike but very hard to control if you are used to a 250r

Well your first problem is that you should be pushing the bars to turn the bike.

Yes I know that it was just very different from being able to throw the 250 from side to side

no 600cc will be as flickable or turn as easily as a 250. maybe u were putting all your weight on your wrists instead of on your core.

Light on the bars, lean the bike and roll on the throttle. Of course after 15 miles of experience you won't be able to get used to how to counter-steer it.

EDIT:

If you hate the ergos of the CBR then you'll probably hate the R6.

When I picked up my 600RR the day after I sold my 250R, I too was worried at first if I made a mistake...But one night in the parking lot was enough to help me to focus on my core weaknesses. You just have to know how to position yourself and you push the handlebars, never pull. I watched twist of the wrist II just to be reminded of some key facts. It's been a blast since. I find it just as easy to ride the 600RR now but that could also be attributed to being a bit stronger. The 250R is very flickable but the 600RR is a great bike and with some tank grips on the side, no problems.

i switch 250 to 600, 600 to 250 all the time...yes the 250 is more flickable and easier to throw around and great for the city...but the 600 is more planted and stable in the twisties...you just have to get used to it...

different bikes but both are fun...

^^^ this right here

Imma oversimplify this.

Off the gas = easier/faster turn in
On the gas = harder turn in

I learned real quick that if you want to turn a SS quickly and easily you simply have to be OFF the gas.

There are many factors that makes a SS not as flickable as a 250 but from the perspective of a rider that hasn't much 600cc+ experience. By far.... the biggest factor that will affect how easy it is to turn will be if your on or off the gas.

On my R6, a chicane at WOT is a total b*tch and takes nearly a wrestling move to get it flicked over. But, off the gas for a tight corner, she lays over with one finger like a vegas hooker. V profile tires help tremendously but it's still no 250.

The secret sauce is to NOT fight the power while turning.

The real question is: What did yout CBR600RR-riding friend think of your 250?

Its the same thing as driving say a Civic Si and then driving an M3. The M3 is heavier, but much faster but the Civic is lighter and less powerful, but more "flicky".

Am i doin this bike thing right? Or are cars taboo

Interesting perspective. I have never been on a 6 and always wondered how they handled in corners because it always seems when I see riders on bigger bikes they are being much more cautious than me...

Don't let this fool you Justin, they handle very nicely in corners. They're very planted and they rocket out on exit. They just take more finesse than a 250 to ride comfortably at speed.

Like with any motorcycle, you need to adjust your riding style a bit to suit a new bike.

This is my experience, I was on my 250 for 10000 miles and got the 2009 cbr600rr. Took it out the next day to the local twisties with no real problem. Hondas are known for great handling and I had no qualms with the bike. I will say that I'd rather have a 600 specifically for the track and use the 250 on the road. That extra juice available on the 600 could get you in trouble.

Ain't that the truth. Been riding my 600 in the last 3 trackdays and every single time it kicks my butt.

Even just putting around in B & C group is so tiring. I love my 250.

600=all biz
250=all fun!

If folks think a 600 is so hard to turn then a 1000 must be impossible. I did a session on an R1 at a tight track and then back on my 600. Enjoyed both.
