Thoughts on installing a full system
For those of you in here that have installed a full system- do you think it was worth the costs? I know when I put my pods on and rejetted I was more than pleased and to this day I still think it's the best upgrade I have done to the bike. I know on paper the horsepower increase isn't that much, but I definitely felt the difference and would never go back to stock. I'm just wondering what everyones thoughts on it are. I hate the stock cans tone I would probably invest in a muzzy system just to get rid of that sound alone, but as far as performance what did you notice about the full system and did you feel the costs were justified?

I would say since your already jetted, the benefit performance wise will be small if your not racing the bike. It's still going to be slow. But for looks and sound I would go for it.

A full system is not for looks and sound

I installed a full system Area P and I couldn't be happier with the modest improvement in horsepower and the fact that it sounds more like a motorcycle now instead of a lawnmower.
As far as Muzzy goes. I have heard nightmares of it being obnoxiously loud. |

Funny, yes, I love my full exhaust. personally, I'd invest the money in springs, emulators, fork oil, and a shock off a 300, but if you want oomph, the Muzzy really help in the mid range and top end. It's no 600 pull, but it's a much more convincing run up to redline.

I can start the bike in the driveway and have a normal volume conversation with my father while it idles. I don't wake my family or neighbors up in the morning (leave for my commute around 6:15 every morning), though they do hear me if the windows are open. Again, can't emphasize enough how much quieter the Muzzy is than the Two Brothers. 18" can with 1.75" core vs twin 12" cans with 2" core. No contest. |

If you're just going to sell it for a 600 ASAP, why spend money on this bike besides maintenance and gas? Seems like a pointless waste.
I've modded mine quite a bit. I'm also already on my 4th season riding with at least 2 more before I consider selling the bike. If I were in your shoes and were looking for something just to learn on, I'd do nothing but tires, gas, oil, and suspension |

my muzzy is loud and obnoxious! but thats because the previous owner put a nice big hole in the side of it with the swingarm... you can hear me start my ninja from a couple streets away.
still ive had both, stock and aftermarket. for me aftermarket all the way, the difference might be small but in my mind its worth it.

Unless you're getting a good deal on a used exhaust save that extra money and spend it on a new bike when the time comes.

There are people that own these bikes because they like them not because they can't afford something bigger. The 250 isn't just a temporary learning tool.

Yeah, if it's beat up like that, don't expect much from selling it. Heck, we can total these bikes just by lowsiding them and rashing up the plastics. From a repair standpoint, it's likely already totaled.
Ride the wheels off it yo!! I'd personally not buy an exhaust for it though |

It's both a learning tool and my primary transportation most of the time. I was simply trying to save him money because a lot of people trade up for bigger bikes after they get comfortable with riding. I love my 250.

I honestly think full exhaust/intake/jet is worth it on our bikes because it's like a 30% power increase. 5 HP on a 145 hp bike is not worth a lot but near 10rwhp for these mods on our bikes makes a big difference.

I'm 220 pound and could not get the thing past 70 when stock. got the areap quiet core and couldn't be happier. daily driving to work on the highway is a breeze, and my ear drums don't suffer. if its a daily driver, I highly recommend.
if its for shits n giggles, sell the bike and get an R6 |

My gas mileage improved a little, and the first gear is much more useable.
The taller gearing make you feel like you shift less, and match revs better when you downshift.

2 Questions:
1)Will an '86-'87 full muzzy fit on a pregen of a later year? 2) Are there similar performance gains with these shorty exhausts when compared to muzzy/2brothers/area p?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NINJA-250-KA...11144069983%26 It says they are 105dB, not sure how loud that is?

105 decibels is very loud! Hahaha those are just trumpets to amplify straight pipe.
Not sure if an 86-87 system will work or not. I remember on member doing an 86 rebuild project and he used a quiet core model from area p for the 88-07 and said it fit fine. I'd have to go dredge up the thread but I don't want to. That's really up to you if you want to try or not. |

Hmmm....same performance results as w/ aftermarket full systems? Kind of want to go 2-1 to simplify it and lighten it up.
Couldn't find the '86 project thread btw.

@Alex, can you help me find the thread I'm thinking of? It's an oldie. The OP had an 86-87 bike (white) and rebuilt a ton of it. Emulators and the works in the forks, really cool rear shock, 2-1 Area p exhaust, Diablo scooter tires, fairing repair, etc etc. I remember he had a pitbull rear stand for it to. He did a particularly nice job with it too.
I know that's not much to go on, but I'm sorting through the old tech threads without much luck. |

I'm not sure I remember that on. The person I always think of when it comes to the 86-87 bikes is @fjyang.

I don't have a white 86 250 but got a black one with the Area P pregen exhaust when they're still producing it. 86-87 exhaust will fit the pregen's and the only difference is the rear peg mounting points. Early Muzzy for the pregen's have a fix mounting tab that's welded to the canister which will only work with pregen's, later model's switch to a removable mounting bracket which will work on 86-87 and pregens.
I put a Yoshi TRS 16" can onto a modified mid pipe to Area P pregen header. The original Area P canister I got is 18" and bit long on the proportion in my opinion and whats interesting is Area P canisters are 2-1/4" core but they insert a sleeve reducer to sim down to 2" core and that reducer also act as a quite core but the main reason is to give the tiny 250 enough back pressure as the 2-1/4" is just too much flow. I took out that reducer and it fit the Yoshi TRS 2-1/4" core prefect. |

Frank, maybe it was your bike I was thinking of... That's a great looking '86, and some great pictures to show it off
I like your fork brace better than mine. It looks a lot less bulky. Got any info on that? Mine seems to rub inside my fairings a little if I hit my driveway entrance without being perfectly upright and straight |

Yepp, mine's a Superbrace brace. Pretty bulky. I've never had issues with unintended mid-corner corrections. Something to keep in mind though. Thanks for the headsup
