Most Challenging/Fun Corners

After tainting another thread with chatter about different corners and the challenges they pose, I figured it deserved its own thread. So if you have a particular corner that is very challenging or fun, post it up! It would be awesome to include a pic and/or video of the road. If possible in your video, post from just before turn in to exit so we get the full effect. It’s ok to include track corners too.

We can start this off with CycleCam303’s pic of an off camber uphill switchback with a steep grade change at apex.

I have a challenging one in mind that I will add when I can get some pics/video.

Here is one of mine, it's fast, downhill entrance in both directions with the northbound exit leading into a fast chicane and the southbound exit with wildly changing camber. Sooo much fun!

So the current question is; As seen in the 4th pic, how would you deal with such abrupt camber change? I know what I do but interested in others point of view.

Late turn-in, so that you are able to get the bike turned for the exit before getting into that dip, and also so that the camber change isn't until after you are fully committed with corner speed/lean.

Excellent! To turn in early here would lead to a possible steering correction right around the point of camber change. Not good

No vid or pic, but there is a turn I take almost everyday to work that gets to me a bit in the down hill direction. On my way to work it is up hill right hander and barely a curve at all and I can blast it all day long. On the way back it is down hill off camber left hander with the road cresting just before apex and the road also with a downward angle towards the outside. For such a small curve it is goofy and I take it cautiously in the down hill direction.

Maybe I can snag a pic on my way home today.

This is one of my favorite series of turns, located on the truck route going to Virginia City. Always have an easier time going up than coming down for some reason. The contour lines are 40ft apart to help see the elevation gain.

And the somewhat best view from Google I can get. Looking south.

Here is pic of that curve i was talking about. It is not the most fun or most challening and again it is not much of a curve but all the angles of it add up and it is goofy in this direction and difficult for what it is.

Yep and the road also angles down to the outside right, the turn also gives a very narrow feeling, kind of hard to explain.

I've never seen Chuckwalla in person, but my first impression is "Damn, they stuck that track out in the middle of nowhere!"

I rode the long way out to my parents house this morning and was reminded of some of the better corners within those 40 miles. I'll grab some Google Maps screenshots in just a bit. I have 3 sets of corners in mind that are probably my favorites.

Edit... Ok, lets see how many posts this takes... I have quite a few screenshots that flow through 2 of the sections I mentioned. @Jono knows these curves as well. They are fun in either direction, but this time the pics are going from West to East, or left to right on the overhead view.

Second half.... Basically this is a couple of what we can call switchbacks (at least for Memphis).

Cool stuff Brad, we have a similar road in my parts that we call the "goat path". The only difference between mine and your is the yellow line. We don't have one No run off and a lot visually going on. Challenge indeed.

@BRad704 I should go ride these corners tomorrow with the GoPro recording so people can get a better view. To be honest I don't recognize all those turns. Things look different through google maps.

I tried out my mom's GoPro Hero 3 yesterday with the suction mount on the front of the tank. REALLY good stuff! Unfortunately it was only around the block.

Yeah, it does look different on Google. It's hard to show the flow in only a few screenshots.

Just rode this route on Sunday. This isn't me in the video, no camera yet. The climb is 1300 ft. in 3 1/2 miles and plenty of turns - If I counted right, 35 turns.

Heheheheh you sound like a CSS coach with the questioning

One of my fav turns of all time is the corkscrew at Laguna, fun and challenging at the same time. I also love 2-5 at Mid Ohio, and 6-9!!! (I love that whole track!)

Maybe I will apply to be a coach one day, please put in a good word for me if I do. lol I understand it's a TON of work.

Turn 9 at Mid-Ohio will always hold a special place in my heart. Maybe one day soon you can tow me through the corkscrew? What if I say pretty please?

This route hits pretty much all the normal "twisty" roads that Memphis has. Pretty sad... LOL

Hocking Hills in SE Ohio, out on 56 there is a nice series of turns I like to ride, the whole place has some great corners but this one is my favorite.
