tram tracks :(

So it happened again. The day before Xmas eve I went down for my second time.

I was following a friend who was in his car as we were about to pick up a truck so I could move house. (Couldn't of happened at a worst time)

The weather was horrible and wet and there was oil everywhere. Plus I live in Melbourne now which has the biggest urban tram system in the world.

I was following my friend and we where coming up to a right hand intersection. I was riding inbetween the tram lines as you sometimes can not avoid in this city. I think because I was following my friend and focused on what he was doing more than I should of been focused on what I was doing.

I got surprise when the track went off to the right suddenly making me cross it before I got to the intersection. I must of been slowing down or had the brake on just a touch because as soon as my front tire hit the track down I went.

I slide a few feet picked myself off the ground and picked my bike up with one hand (other hand was limp) it was amazing really people came out of no where to make sure I was OK. If wasn't in shock and pain I would of liked to say thank you. I jumped in my friends car and he drove me to the hospital.

Soft tissue damage in my left hip. (Really hurts to move my leg) and fractured my collarbone in a few places.

Couldn't of happened at a worst time as I have one apartment that is all packed up for the move and one that is empty just waiting to move into. Im also in the restaurant game so this is the busiest time of year for me.

Bike is scratched up which is OK as I don't mind battle scars. Needs a new left handle bar as it's bent and the shifter is bent back 180 degrees.

Can anyone guess if the shifter is bent back like that would the internals be OK?

Anyway merry Xmas all and ATGATT I would be so worse off if I wasn't wearing full gear.

Keep it rubber side down brothers and sisters.

Deejay.

Very sorry to read this, Deejay

The shifter can be easily straighten and it should not be internal damage.
If the left handle bar is not hitting the tank, you could still ride it like that.

My first fall ever was similar to yours.
You didn't need to be braking for the front tire engaging on the wet rail and basically make you slam the ground in a heartbeat.
All your weight was on your left shoulder upon impact.

Hope that your collarbone heals properly and quickly.

I slid out last week. Had to brake hard locked them up and went down. A bunch of strangers also helped me. Stood my bike up, gave me the keys, and gently carried me out of the street and onto the sidewalk since I couldn't walk. It's great when people are nice to us. And most definitely ninjas are tough bikes mine went down hard and damage is only cosmetic. I feel you on the bad timing mine happened a week before Christmas and that night I had a party planned in a suite that my friends and I got at a Vegas hotel. I just keep telling myself it could of been a lot worse and We'll get thru it.

If you have one, use a vice or clamp to hold the lever, then use a pipe or something with a hole thats the right size to slip onto the tip (where the rubber part is) to bend it back. The longer the pipe the more leverage youll have and the easier this will be.
