Since you have a pregen, this wiki may help answer your question: http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_lon...engine_last%3F
Still looking for the thread that answered your second question... High mileage ninjettes Can the ninja handle high mileage? My 2012 currently has 37,200 something. But AFAIK @Racer x has the all time king of high mileage ninjettes.

With proper maintenance and kind riding (aka not riding the engine hard/rough downshifts/stuff like that) it's not ridiculous for ninjettes to achieve super high mileage. I believe my 300 will last longer than my 250 though and I'm switching the engine on my 250 soon. Unfortunately the speedo cable went out on my 250 so I don't know the exact mileage but it was over 20k if my tank fillup math is right (6 fillups = 1000mi give or take w/~170mi per tank)
for reference my 300 engine is just over 6000mi at this point and it's just starting to get into it's stride as my street commuter bike for the life of the vehicle. |

The bike I have I did not ride. But it has 139000 documented miles. The original owner now has a brand new 300 he rides every day.

I think I read somewhere that a 250 had over 3 million miles (it might have been a Volvo). I would say one million would be enough and then you'd be ready to move up to a 600.
As long as you don't beat it too hard it should make you smile for a long time.

I just want to see how high the Koso will go before it digitally "rolls" over. Will I end up with a little icon to show "way too many damn miles"?

One of my few complaints about the Koso is the 100k odometer. In reality, of course, few people will ever turn it over. Present company excepted!

Is it really saving money when you wouldn't normally have ridden those miles without the bike? Sure my bike gets 50mph while my truck gets 16mpg but no way would i ever have dreamed of putting 600 mile weekends on my truck! Usually i would only ride around 200-300 mile weekends.
So yep, bike is cheaper but heck it has cost me an arm and a leg!

I am pretty sure I will never see mine turn over because I most likely will be taking those parts off with my un build. On the other hand this bike has the best head light of all the bikes I have owned, it might stay on just for that fact. now I don't know what I want to do... maybe I just need to put some miles on it

My 2010 has 20,000 + and doesn't use a drop of oil, still runs like a scalded dog. Now this thread reminf=ds me of a funny story........
My best freind bought his 1st motorcycle, a 1974 Kawasaki S3 400cc Triple 2 stroke. We were both boy racers, and taking my advice we turned his fork legs around so the disc brake caliper was on the "back side" of the fork leg. The bike wasn't 2 weeks old when we did this. From this point on the speedo quit working and the odometer ran backwards. By the time he "moved up" and I bought the 400, the odo showed like 95,000 miles. I rode the bike to a Moto Guzzi rally a few years later, and was in line at the gas station waiting for this group of grzzeled old Guzzi touring bike riders to fill up and go. They are all talking about how many miles they have racked up on thier bikes, I think one guy had 60K on his. As he's talking, he glances back and see's me sitting on the 400. He points me out to his friends and say's "I bet this guy doesn't have 2500 miles on that ring a ding. He walks back to my bike to look at my ODO to confirm. You should have seen the look on his face when he saw 93,500 miles. I laughed and told him I hadn't even changed the rings yet. I got a big kick out of that, for sure. |

I've seen a pre-gen with 85,000 miles on it. Like any bike with 85,000 on the odometer, it had had a few things serviced or replaced, but nothing out of the ordinary. The owner seemed happy enough.
As for new-gen, the most I've seen on one so far is about 33,000. Bike was in very good shape, but the owner was an aircraft mechanic with a garage full of tools and lived to do his own wrenching for fun.

I think it's a little funny how people think 10,000 miles on a bike is a lot but on a car it is nothing. Either one just depends on how it is taken care of. My bike only has 7900 but I trust it to run and ride properly with no issues.

I turned 20k on the clock yesterday. That's 12k in... 5 months.
With the time investment I have in messing with this bike, I'd need to clock atleast 60k before feeling like I got a return for my hours, so it looks like I might be joining the 100k mile crowd. Honestly I'd be kinda surprised to see that from this machine. 92mph top speed pinned for 8 minutes a time, almost every day -- WFO in sixth pushing through a headwind. Oil changes every 3k. (ON THE TRACK OF COURSE.)

I just got to 18k yesterday had to snap this photo. Had this bike for only a year and put the last 10k miles on it. I think with proper maintenance it will keep going till 50k atleast.

Let's say 25K miles accumulated in short trips of 20 miles are much worse than 25K accumulated in long trips of 200 miles each. Once an engine is working and everything is balanced as it should, mainly lubrication and cooling, all the metal moving parts keep away from each other by a continuous film of oil. It is the movement, the heat (dilatation of parts) and the pump's pressure what keeps that film alive; hence, after stopping the engine the metal parts contact each other and grab and tear each other some (at microscopic level) during start ups. The high rpms don't impose an additional stress to the engine; actually, the high rpms are the result of the design of the engine (light parts, short strokes, valve's timing, etc.). I know of a pre-gen that reached the 100K miles only with reduced compression and elongated timing chain.
