2012 ninja 250R tire options

Hey my 2012 250R ninja will be needing a rear tire soon. The bike is a casual ridden bike nothing aggressive. My question is where and which rear tire is the cheapest option for this bike. Also are there any other sizes that are more common and cheaper that will fit the bike without any major diffrences? Thanks in advance

you could probably get replacement IRCs or some stupid Kendas for cheap. but don't cheap out on rubber. good rubber can mean the difference between crashing or not. i like bt45's for mild riding

Here's a list of tires that fit: https://www.ninjette.org/wiki/New_gen_tire_options (not sure how current that is).

For the newgens, the front can hold either a 110 or 120, the rear does a 130 or 140.

For casual every day riding, IRCs work. They aren't good or bad, they just *are*.

Pirelli's, like the Rosso IIs, are geared more for aggressive riding say canyons or track so your mileage will definitely suffer.

Bridgestone BT-45s are geared more for touring and while the price was higher than the IRCs, they pay for themselves in longevity.

I've read on here that the Kendas are a good inexpensive option with moderate mileage for general riding. Never used them myself.

Strictly my opinion, so take with a huge grain of salt.

check out www.americanmototire.com

very simple site with good prices. Just did business with them and had good results. If you email, you'll most likely talk to Vaughn. As for low budget rubber options, I just got the Shinko SR741 after reading some good reviews. They are still too new to review from personal experience (less than 100 miles on them) but for less than 70 bucks...

Happy to be able to add my .02

Pirelli Sport Demons worked out for me, and you can still keep the OEM size.

So what you are saying is, MY 2012 250 can take a rear tire size of 140/70/17 and a front of 120/70/17? If that is the case I am going to order the BT45s

There is no advantage to the 120 front over the 110. It will raise the front of your bike and slow down the steering.

That makes sense, how about going bigger in the back. Any difference?

Panty-dropping cred.

(No, given the same tire. If a better tire is only available in a 140, or even a 150, then it's a compromise in size to get a better compound. Check the tire wiki here, or any of the similar tire threads at the bottom of the page for more info).

I'm a firm believer in profile and compounds. I honestly don't believe there is any advantage over the 140/110 combo.

I would stay away from 150 rears, unless it is an awesome deal, a lot of wasted rubber. I still have about half inch of unused rubber on mine and that is from track day use. I was hitting peg around almost all corners too.

Never be 'cheap' with tires or brakes. You can be cheap with the things that make you go, but it's not so smart to be cheap with the things that make you stop.
