Yamaha have made no mention of (pointless) 300cc size bore & stroke.

They call it an r25.

Does anyone have a link to 300cc mentioned?

The speculation about a 300 started because Yamaha recently trademarked
"YZF-R3" & "R3"

Just some update guys, to see if YZF R25/ R3 worth to wait for you guys.

Recently, local Indonesian mags M+ tested Ninja 250 with the new YZF R25 stock to stock, at Indonesian Sentul racetrack. The tester is a national racer used to race on Ninja 250 and 600 class, Nico Julian. The test is done by doing 5 laps on each bike and pick the best time. On stock Ninja 250, his best time is 2 minute 3.62 second. On the R25, he get better lap time, 1 minute 59,59 second, or 3 seconds faster.

He admitted higher power output and lighter weight of R25 contribute to the better lap time, especially on exiting corner and the straight. The handling is lighter and less demanding. " it feels better for cornering. It's also lighter, so it's easier when during turning in and exiting apex. This also makes its lap time more special than the Ninja."

The ninja 250 FI (EX250L) here should be comparable to EX250J in the US because of similar weight and performance.

Ninja 250 FI

Max power on dyno 28,16hp@11.342RPM
Max torque 18,91NM@8.728RPM
0-60 km/hour 3,08 second
0-100 meter 6,27 second
0-201 meter 9,74 second
Best time Sentul : 2 minute 3,62 second
Top speed : 165 km/jam

YZF R25
Max power on dyno 32,23hp@12.528RPM
Max torque 20,17NM@10.354RPM
0-60 km/hour 2,89 second
0-100 meter 6,14 second
0-201 meter 9,61 second
Best time Sentul : 1 minute 59,94 second
Top speed : 172 km/jam

What tires do each come with over there, where they on the same rubber? Definitely looks like the yami has a power advantage on the dyno.

Interesting rumor that the new Yamaha will actually be a 320cc, which would be 24cc over the Ninja 300 and 34cc over the Honda.

Not sure how much difference that would make.

Hate to say it, but I'd rather have a 320cc twin over a 250cc 4-cyl for casual weekend riding. I've scaled my 4-cyl Honda CBR650F ambitions back to the 2-cyl 471cc CBR500 series or Ninja 300. I think a 4-cyl 250cc would be an absolute hoot to ride, but just not as my main regular ride. If I'm going to deal with 4-cyl, I think 400cc is in order.

That explains perfectly why the R25 is getting a bigger boost than expected and may also explain why the CBR300 was delayed (back to the drawing board).

If quebec gets a modern 4-cyl 250 I'll be interested. If they get a 4-cyl 400 then I'll start looking into import taxes and registration.

LOL! It's not because they are special. Theirs will not be any more desirable. They won't get it unless we get something equal or better.

I *think* it was Quebec, but some Canadian province had some legislation or insurance restriction for beginners or a certain license class that kept the limit under a certain HP so Kawi sleeved down a 650R to match. After jumping through those hoops, there wasn't any reason not to sell it in the rest of Canada. It was an HP limit and not a displacement limit, IIRC.

A 4cyl 300, 325, 350, 375, or 400 might replace the Ninja 400R if they can stay under the imposed HP limit. If the model they offer here generates too much HP for that market it will probably be closer than the 650R was so they might be slightly de-tuned there with no sleeved-down displacement.

I think it'll most likely be an extra 25cc per cylinder outside of Indonesia for a total of 350cc.

Wow the number of options in small displacement bikes has really gone up in the last year or so.

CBR 250 and 500, Ninja 300, RC 390 and now this.

Like the article says Suzuki needs to join this party.

Having some competition should keep Kawa from getting lazy.

This lets me risc a forecast, based on what we know from Kwaki, Ninja 250 to Ninja 300 in hp at the crank and taking the already known crank-hp from the Yami 250 then I would guess for the R3 = 44 to 46 hp at the crank...

I like that is has beefier forks (41mm) and a floating front rotor standard - the bike seems built to be run a little harder than the current "1/4 class" bikes. I should clean up nicely with some parts that normally get added to bikes (rearsets, exhaust, etc) as they are some of the cheaper looking bits on it.

Cheaper and better looking IMO than the other little Jap bikes. I think Yamaha's got a winner.

Any guesses when the Ninja 350 will be revealed?

I can't get passed the fact that if you have 200 miles between gas stations you will be walking 20 or 30 miles. It will have a range < a ZERO

I fill up every 150~ miles anyway so that's not a massive issue....also T.T 3.5gal for 150mi...I should consider using less throttle

I get 240 miles all the time on my 300.

150 miles I would be at the gas station everyday

I love everything else about the R3, but range is very important to me.
