How long can you keep it up
It’s easy to get it up once we get moving but stopped, it ‘s not that easy to keep it up.
I always watch riders stopped for the light because I’m impressed by people who can maintain an erect posture for a while without moving forward. Personally, I find I can stay erect pretty long by moving my head left or right. But still...I'd prefer to be straight up as long as possible. So….when it’s time to stop, how long can you keep it up and how do you do it. |

I don't usually try, unless I know the light's about to change. It's not like riding a bicycle, where you unclip to put a foot down, and it's hard to get going again. I prefer to just ride to a gentle stop, put my foot out once the bike is in 1st, and ease to a stop, checking my mirrors and nearby traffic....head on a swivel. The most likely place for an accident involving another vehicle is at an intersection, I don't want to distract myself playing a balancing game.

It's how you read it.
I'll never be fast, so I might as well be slow and on the street,,,99% of the feet are down within a second.....if they're not dragged before the bike stops. Seriously, slow riding is fun....I'm working on full lock circling now....I'm down to maybe 12-13' consistently ( 2 parking spaces at the beach) |

I play the balancing game when there is no traffic around me. Usually can manage a few seconds before losing it. Clutch work, bit of throttle, lots of rear brake. Not that good, but its a fun game.
Course, foot goes down immediately when I see a car approaching so I can tap my brake light a few times. No sense adding risk needlessly.

I can't keep it up once i stop. Never have. Try as I might, it just doesn't happen for me. Sometimes I find wiggling it a little will buy me time but ultimately it starts to fall.
I use to think my GF would help. She's been riding much longer than I have and quite experienced. She's told me she's never had an issue keeping it up and would be willing to coach me. Perfect I thought! "The key is to concentrate; to really focus on what you want" she would say. "Keeping playing the image again and again in your head." Sometimes she would whisper in my ear to help coach my thoughts. Sometimes she would use her hands to help out. We've tried numerous places. In the garage, the backyard, the front driveway. Heck, we've been as bold as to try it at a stoplight in real traffic! None of it would work. It kept falling. Finally, one day, we were really going at it, tearing it up when we had to stop. Only for a second. I tried everything she taught me. At first i thought i had it. It stayed perfectly erect. I looked at her; she smiled back. I was elated... ...but then, I felt it twitch. Then lean. I grab on tight! Wiggled it. I even tried standing but none of it work and when i couldn't take it any longer I had to put my foot down. She laughed... and not in a good way. I glared at her; told her this was her problem too. She asked how. You're my partner. We ride together. She cocked head back, cackled for a second, looked at me and said, not anymore as she rode off. Maybe someday I'll figure out it out. |

i own at slow riding, its all those clutch control lane demos with the msf, i can usually keep the ninja up untill the light turns, unless its a really long light. i would say about 20-25 seconds.
There was a student about 4 months ago that had problems riding all weekend but this in turn got her insanely balanced. me and my c2 counted and she could sit on a bike completely stopped with no feet down for over a minute, and that was with out wiggling or moving around! just a perfect posture statue on a bike!

2-3 seconds at a dead stop, but I have pulled off 15ft in 1min 28sec before, dragging rear brake like crazy and keeping the revs up at a moto rodeo.... I was however, not even close to the best... some people got skillz....
