Installed the forks and bleed the front brake. found out I'm missing a pinch bolt for the top triple as well as another bolt for the brake master bracket. I just need a rear wheel to get the bike moved out of the patio.

Today I installed a 15 tooth front sprocket. Why didn't they do that at the factory? It is better in every way.
I also installed my new bar end mirrors and block off plates. MUCH better. The only problem I ran into was, with the threaded bar tubes, and the stock bar ends, the provided cap screws wee not long enough. I couldn't find a local source for the appropriate screws. I have a bench lathe, so I turned 15mm off the ends of the stock bar ends. this gave a nice flat surface and allowed the use of the 40mm screws that came with he bar ends. Repainted the stock bar ends after machining, and assembled them with Green Locktite. The mirrors have absolutely no vibration and give a far better field of view. Tomorrow will be my first major ride since I bought the bike two weeks ago. Plan on maybe 500-550 miles. Gonna go do Ozella Trail and environs around Brooksville. |

Installed Galfer SS brake lines front and rear. Huge improvement, especially in the rear. I almost think there might have been some air in the rear line since it was new. New brake fluid as well.. Some CRG brake levers on their way for next weekend.

Vinegar bath for a week, neutralized with a mix of water, two boxes of baking soda (two pails of that), and dish soap, then heavily sprayed with wd40, hit with a leaf blower, more wd40, hit it with a leaf blower again, blocked off the petcock/ fuel gauge holes, poured a bottle of 2 stroke oil, shook that around
Neighbors probably thought I was crazy seeing me shaking a gas tank around. Fixing the bracket was the most annoying thing ever. Bracket was bent downward at a sharp angle. I was able to bang it back to shape with a combination of a rubber mallet, a screw driver, and pliers. Paint on the bracket was obviously ****ed up but I hit it with wd40, will spray it later with black and clear. Before: After: Down the line, I'll probably replace the petcock filter just in case there were more rust lodged loose by the gasoline.

Dumped the vinegar out of the tank, went ahead and got a another petcock off ebay along with other misc parts to get the motor turned over. sprayed the gas tank with wd40, and capped it off. Got most of the rust out but there's still a bunch up under the topside of the tank. Looks like I'm going to to have to turn the tank upside down and do the treatment again. I hope the gas lock holds up.
@mgentz how's the motor running?

Running better now. Switched to synthetic oil. Now the pressure light goes off immediately. Before it would take a few secs. Shifts better too.

Lost the pivot bolt on my shifter during a downshift. Unfortunately I was going about 50MPH and there were no lights so I gave up trying to find the damn thing.
Rode home the last 3 miles in 1st gear. Looks like I'll have to make a trip to Home Depot to find a suitable replacement. |

Took me forever to clean it out after I dumped the vinegar but the bike works. Lined the tank with some 2 stroke oil to prevent flash rust.

Replaced the spark plugs with NGK Iridium. Bike seemed to start a bit easier. Only rode it around the block though so I'll see if overall performance is better later.

@mgentz
I'm working on a track bike using the 265cc motor. Piecing a bike together is adding up real fast and I don't have any aftermarket parts yet! @IF13 The concentrated vinegar is some good stuff! I filled the tank up to the rim of gas fill hole but there's still a good amount of tank untouched. I have large flakes of rust just chilling up there.

What are your opinions on plasti dip?
I was thinking about using it for the windshield and heat shield and end cap on the exhaust. |

I'm hoping there's an aspect of functionality as well as looks. My end cap started rusting because of the high humidity, so hopefully a plastic coating would help prevent the rusting.
I really like the way my (black) rear sets clean up the bike so I may do the same with the passenger pegs and use one of those plasti dip gloss coat. |

Today I completed the 7,500 mile valve check and adjustment - exhaust valves on cylinder 1 were both too tight, adjusted to 0.05mm thinner HotCams shims to bring them back in the middle of the range which is where the others are.
First time inside a motorbike engine - a little scary but the engine still starts and no nasty noises so I think I got away with it... FI light has come on though so I may need to retrace my steps and see if I forgot to reconnect a connector. Any of you (mostly carb I guess) folks have any hunches on that? I'm wondering if it's just my battery was off its charger for a couple of days and the low voltage triggered the FI. It was showing up low when I reconnected the charger tonight. Otherwise I assume there's a way to read some sort of code to give me a clue so I'll have a search... Cheers, Pete |

So after replacing the spark plugs, the bike seems to run much smoother and the idle is now stable and consistent.

Not a big deal unless your racing and even then... just rev higher and more clutch fines. IMHO it should be the stock gearing.
