it's a bit of a basket case. but I'm confident it can make a full recovery
Looks good, I love the red & Black CBR's, it's my favorite motorcycle color scheme actually.

installed the new radiator. bike starts up fine with the tipover sensor connector plugged in, but until I get a new headlight I can't ride it at all. tipover sensor is located in the headlight.

discovered the cam chain rattling around. need to order a manual cam chain tensioner which I have to call in from work to get the discount. should cost me about $43. the bike also needs a front tire, so I'm going to take the tire of my SV650 and put it on this bike and the SV will get a new rosso 2 front tire. it also needs rear brake pads. the rear rotor is a bit wavy but I measured it and it's within spec.

also needs a new ignition, someone tried to steal it and someone replaced the ignition with a crappy chinese one that's all messed up.

Manual cam chain tensioner. How do you know when it's properly tensioned? Start the bike and adjust the tension until the kawi tick is gone?

How to adjust a manual cam chain tensioner;
  • Remove stock tensioner
  • Install manual tensioner
  • Turn adjustment bolt in by hand until you feel it get tight against the cam chain
  • DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!!!!!
  • Back off the adjustment bolt about 1/4-1/2 turn
  • Start bike, rev a little bit to listen for the rattle
  • Turn adjustment bolt inward in 1/4 turns until rattle is gone throughout the rev range
  • DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!!!!!

It takes an ear for it. When you're done, you should be able to hear a faint tick at idle but it should be silky smooth sounding when reving.

Did I mention DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN?!?!?!?

Just to clarify a little, the rattle you hear is the actual mechanism inside the CCT rattling and NOT the cam chain itself. You could ride the bike forever on the stock CCT with the rattle and it would never hurt a thing, hence why Honda never recalled them, it's just annoying to hear the rattle.

Manual CCTs are great though, My F4i came with one. You'll know if it's too loose or too tight, I got mine on a little tight after my valve adjustment and I could hear a faint whine from the overtensioned cam chain. I just backed it off a little and started the bike to make sure it sounded right. Another little word of advice, take the throttle bodies off for the CCT install, it'll make it soooo much easier for you. You should be able to adjust it without removing anything IIRC, as long as you have a good assortment of wrenches lol.

came to work today to see some coolant underneath the bike. the water pump hose and pipe was pretty grimey and I cleaned it off but apparently not enough or didn't tighten the clamp hard enough. I moved the hose up a little and added another clamp. what's better than one radiator hose clamp? TWO RADIATOR HOSE CLAMPS!! this is called 'PERFORMANCE MODS' people.

I installed the APE manual cam chain tensioner a couple days ago. it was a huge bitch. the tensioner is right behind the frame in a place that's pretty hard to get to. but in total it took me about two hours start to finish. 100% eliminated the cam chain rattle.

it looks so good, I almost wanna keep it. I got a set of used oem mirrors today and I have brake pads and a clutch lever to throw on maybe tomorrow. I listed it on craigslist for $3900 or best offer but I haven't had any bites yet. If I can't get $3300 for it I'll probably just keep it.

just list it as $2500 + fees and then once they've looked at the bike haggle them down from 3800 to 3300 so they feel like they got a good deal on those stupid dealer fees

GLWS - a nice F4i is actually the bike that keeps jumping up in my mind as the bike I would like to pick up. Every time I ride the 6R on the street I just keep thinking I would enjoy something similar but with a bit more comfort.
