Rode the bike today for the first time. Just up and down the pit road. Just putting pressure on the throttle. I wanted to put pressure on the rings and load the engine. And test the jetting to feel if it was lean or rich. The bike jumps to 65 mph in third gear! This beast feels really good. I don't know what it will do, but at least at this point it feels good.
Weather tomorrow looks hopefull.

Cooler dense air is great for making power.
OTOH, warmer, lighter air is less resistant for speed runs. Which are you hoping for?

I'm not racerX, so idk, but since he can tune his bike to make as much power as he wants, I would imagine he would prefer less resistance.

Drag increases with the square of velocity but power required increases with the cube of velocity -> I would go with thin air as the relationship between density of the fluid and air resistance is directly proportional lol. The small increase in power buys you a lot less velocity mathematically than a small decrease in air density and thus drag.

No good, carb jetting was to lean for the cold wet conditions. It went soft at 3/4 track before I hit the nitrous. I hoped the nitrous would save it but it was to late and I burned a plug.
I'll be back in six week to run again in June. I like thin warm air. But need to have time to tune for whatever I am given. Today I was at the front of the line and a little rushed to go.

Can't you jet your carbs when down there?
Does your nos have an oxygen sensor that is uses to control the amount of fuel supplied?

It's no big deal . The weather was the big factor as usual. But thanks I wish it had been different.
I can usually get three or four runs a day. At least two runs are easy. I was almost first in line. I actually let others go befor me so I could heat the nitrous bottle to the proper pressure. I will have the engine pulled down in a couple days. I think it just took the top off the number one plug and that will cause exhaust valve leakage. I don't think I will reuse these Pistons. I am going to only run 250 cc from now on. The 282 overbore on stock sleeves makes me nervous. It's bad enough they hit the head at first. So I don't really like Weisco pistons because of that. This is really no big deal. Just racing. The whole weekend was a rain out and head cross winds. I'm going to fix it and retune for June.

Every chance I get to run I learn somthing. This weekend was good. The new bike is like a baby. It has a lot of potential and I have to work with it. I have already developed a new tuning regiment and am excited to get on the dyno .
I also had an opertunity to meet Rickey Gadson. Only Briefly when I helped tech his bike. But I can tell you he is a really good guy.

Another problem this week was a dear friend went down hard and had to be flown out by Helicopter. He is OK but suffered a number of broken bones and a laserated liver. He is having surgery today to prep for more later in the week. Never good when that happens.

Project X update
First my friend that crashed is recovering nicely. He broke just about everything including his neck. He suffered an internal decapatation. The doctors reatached his skull to his spine wit six screws and two steel plates. He can no longer get into an aero tuck but is back to driving and can walk and talk and do everything else. My other friend that went down last year and lost her leg is doing an amazing job. Last week she was back up and riding her drag bike. The town of Wilmington Ohio that has hosted our race event since 2009 was going to lease the air park to Amazon in 2017. That deal fell to CVG air park in Cincinnati so there is a remote possibility the East Coast Timing Assocaition can use the air park for 2017. Nothing has been announced. So I am getting the bike ready. I have the orange bike on the street. And after riding it to work for a month,it is abosoutly ready to race. No nitrous or fairing it will set or break records in the Modified Gas class. The Project X bike is now being prepped for the street. The ability to tune and ride the bike to work makes the whole process of getting on the track much easier. First thing it needed is lights and brakes up front. The lights are ready.

I think I have everything so far. I am not going to use turn signals just headlights and brake light. I have Monday off and spent the day going through the bike and reassembling the fuel system. Then I will get the wiring back together. I have to do a little work to get the lights going again. I used the headlight system to run the nitrous system. But that is OK because I won't use them both at the same time anyhow. I just need to make it so I can use the lights for the street. I also need to build an air box. I normally run without an airfilter. I suspect that is causing the right side carb to get more air and leaning out the right side piston. I'm not sure what I will come up with. But I can't wait to see it.

Still a lot of details to sort out. Dash wiring , lights front and rear . The rear sets ,front brakes. That sort of thing. But all the hard parts are in. The body is done and it is what it looks like. I also will need a new exhaust system. I think I the open header will be a littl loud for street use.

Project update
I made a dash wiring harness. Now the Koso RX2 dash works and lights up when I turn on the ignition. I got a right side hand control. Now I have a throttle and starter button. And when I push the button the engine cranks. Even better I have spark. So I know the engine will run. I ordered a left foot peg bracket. That will complete the rear sets. I will have shifting, brakes and a brake light. Foot position is one inch back and 1/2 inch down. Good for my long legs. I got a new battery The lights are in. I still. Need to do a minor wiring thing but no big deal. Next thing is front brakes. I need all of it. And then a rear brake light. Still on the list is a front tire and front fender. Then minor clean up of nitrous wiring. And get it running. Once that part is done I will make a street exhaust system. This project is moving slow but the weather is turning warm and I can't wait to ride and do some tuning. As some may know the East Coast Timing Association lost the track in Ohio. We are now homeless. If anyone has 9000 feet of runway we can barrow let me know. Operating airports are not useable. Also military airfields are out of the question. We need an airport with a big yellow X on the center. We will have a new track maybe fall of 2017 and we have a good possibility in 2018. So I have some time to tune.

Update time again
The Arkansas Mile is up and running. This coming weekend is the first race. I unfortunately am not ready. Work and money are holding me back. That said there is progress. I have almost all the wiring redone I have the exhaust system finished. I have the foot controls done The hand controls are almost ready The front brakes are on order and rear brakes are done Once I get the ignition switch I will have the engine running and the bike will be very close . Once I have the brakes blead and all the lights working it will be street legal The only thing left is a front tire and a front fender. My race fender won’t work with a brake disc. But that is it. Maybe 150 bucks to go before I can finish it and ride it on the street. After all of that is done I have a special surprise . Can’t say much at this point but I am going to add methanol and 110 octane fuel plus nitrous to the mix all with a new nitrous system. As soon as I get that sorted I will post up more Big deal is I found a place eight miles away that sells race gas. The next race is September 28-30. I am pushing to get everything done tuned and tested for that big weekend.

They sell shell race fuel Before I had to order 5 gallons a fuel 65 dollars then have it shipped 50 dollars. I would end up dumping half of it in my van. I just could not afford 100 plus dollars worth of fuel. Then adding mathanol would double that. But now I can just purchase two gallons and then burn it up and get two more. And that is very reasonable. I do need a fender . I can repair it . I would be happy to pay for it or meet you someplace . I need the metal piece inside also . But anything would be a big help I could use the Alpha 13. I only use the center ha ha. Land speed bikes don’t lean much . Pm me your address and I can mail you money for shipping

I dont have a fork brace to spare but the fender is yours. Ill PM ya in the next day or two to figure sonethin out. Id be happy to meet in N Liberty or let me know if you are heading towards Cedar Rapids anytime soon.
Someone is usually selling VP gas at the CCS races. Id be willing to bring some back if you need. I cant believe how many folks burn MR12 ($30/gal) when its a plastic trophy on the line. |

I would be happy to meet you at north liberty anytime that is convenient for you. Just let me know.
I think I will use the shell fuel. My biggest problem is heat. And I am tuning at a ragged edge. Consistency of the fuel will be critical . So a gallon her and a gallon there has to be the same mixture. The methanol will be from a separate tank. I am going to run the bike up to 100mph then inject a mixture of nitrous and methanol. This should actually drop the temp and add power . 1400 deg is my cut off point. If I can keep the temp near 1000-1200 under power then drive the temp down as I double the power. That would be the dream.

No I need 52 hp to go 125 mph. That is the next license class . I can’t believe it has taken 10 years . But if I can make 55 to 60 hp for about a 1/2 Mile. Then maybe into the 130 mph range will be possible.

I got some progress to report.
First off thank you Dave Wolf for the fender. It cleaned up nice and is being painted now. I ordered a bracket. It will arrive soon. I ordered an ignition switch from China. 14 bucks. After waiting a month it was for a first gen:-(. In my haste I ordered one from Texas and then discovered it was for a 300. That means it has a 300 ohm resistor at the gray wire. No biggie. Just swap out the resistor with 100 ohm. I now have the electrical system going. Lights cranks spark all that good stuff. Next is to get the engine running and fill it with liquid. After that get finish the hand controls Little by little.

Good luck with the speed runs. Why not get a wide band O2 sensor in your exhaust to t7ne the carbs ? Saves melting parts on the few real days you get to play ! You can leave it off for runs to save weight !

I had a wide band sensor. They are very sensitive and expensive. I use two exhaust temp sensors and they seem to work well. As for progress I have the hand controls done and brakes done. Next is tires and then liquids. Once that is done I’ll be on the road and add the nitrous system.
