Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace

:-)

I don't care if anybody prays (or not) or who (or what) they pray to. If you're a nice person and treat others with respect, then you enrich the world that we all have to share.

IF

Christians followed the teachings of Yeshua/Jesus

Muslims followed the teaching of the Torah, Yeshua/Jesus, and Mohammed

Jews followed the Torah

Mormons everything the Christians follow, and leave out some of the racist stuff from the early church.

THAN

We'd all get along too.

Religion is the key word there, though. Religion has caused more wars than anything else on this planet.

Hell, religion has even infested our government. Why do republicans hate gays? lol cos god says so!

False.

EXPLOITATION of religion has caused a lot of wars. Do you blame Islam for terrorist attacks? I dont. It is the nuts exploiting Islam and Mohammeds teachings that blow themselves up...

you're correct but my point is they wouldnt be doing any of that if there was not any religion.

Honestly id prefer them to use another reason to kill one another than religion, ha

There have been two big groups of people, Justin: those who love and construct and those who hate and destroy.

Each group has used all the arguments and reasons available to justify what they do, being religion only one of them.

According to this article, religion is not much more than a set of rules"

Again i agree, however religion has always been at the forefront of their (whoever they may be) excuse. That's one of the very first things i figured out in grade school in History class. and still holds true to this day.

They'd find another way. Power is what they want, and religion unfortunately can give you that power. Then you can use the masses for what you want.... It all comes back to power imo.

But again. people will always find reasons to kill each other. Its in our nature.

How did you convince your parents to let you ride? As far as praying goes, I think I will definitely be doing it before long rides. Even for short rides I will always just mentally be aware that it is a risk that I am taking.

Don't mean to get off topic but..
Its ALL about taking the responsibility of buying and owning a motorcycle out of your parents hands. I bought everything, did all the research, and took the msf class. Its harder for some parents than others but it will never be easy. It also doesn't hurt to keep your grades up, no drugs and alcohol, etc.

I could go on and on. PM me if you want to know more.

Ill also add to the conversation and say that even though I am a practicing Catholic, I am still a bit of an existentialist. Without getting too much into it, I think that the world is a random place. Almost nothing is destiny. Bad stuff happens to amazing people and good things come to those who don't deserve it. ETC.. Praying is no substitution for pre ride checks and general awareness but it can't hurt.

I think praying before going out is a lot like saying "Please..." It's nice.
Still,,,I say "Thanks" a whole lot more.

So there's a big flood and farmer John climbs to the roof and yell s
"Oh God save me"
The fire dept comes and john says, No God's gonna save me.
About 20 minutes later a guy in a rowboat comes and John says, No God's gonna save me
Finally a helicopter comes and John says Oh no, Gods gonna save me.
John falls off the roof and drowns.
Get to heaven and says, Hey God...how come you didnt save me ?
God turns to him and says
"John...I sent the fire dept , a rowboat and a helicopter..what were you waiting for ?"

I noticed today that there were quite a few motoGP riders that 'crossed' themselves before heading out onto the track.

It could hurt if they fell off while they were standing on the bike crossing themselves.

But I think that's unlikely. Now, if it were me doing it ...

Seeing as how death could come from any direction (even though someone could say that even walking out your door, or just getting out of bed is dangerous) and most drivers in the world are idiots. I understand if you don't wish to answer if this is a personal issue with you, it would just be nice to see more people go to Heaven than Hell.

Be safe out there and remember that God is Good.
I really don't care for about probably... 80% of the discussion that is occurring here.. But two of my good track buddies always cross themselves/pray before each of their sessions, often more than once.

Personally I am Agnostic [I'm a cop out, I guess?], but if you have faith, there is no reason why you shouldn't pray prior to your rides. Of course, there is no reason to do so if you don't feel it necessary either.

Well this thread certainly took a different direction than I thought.

I pray before rides, usually just something quick. Usually say thanks after and during rides, I believe in God, I believe He helps me out there. Had some close calls thanks to my own idiocy that I could say were pure luck surviving, my own skill calculating that I could narrowly make it, or that God/my guardian angel were protecting me. I like the last answer the most, it's what I'm comfortable with and goes with my beliefs.

My religion is personal to me, I consider myself Christian, but yes I believe in science and I support gay rights and all that. When I have a question regarding something that really makes me think wtf in the Bible I consult those who are a lot wiser and more learned than I and always leave more than content with the answers I receive. I really just focus on Jesus's teachings and the whole loving and friendliness part of it, that's really what it's all about. I'm not perfect, honestly I'm a real jerk sometimes but I do try to be polite, loving and helpful. It's largely a personal thing for me, I don't share it as much as I should.

I'm not going to up and tell people they're wrong or they're going to hell or anything like that, that kind of stuff isn't for me to decide or say. You're free to believe what you want to believe, screw who you want to screw, do what you want with your life. Whatever makes you happy. It's not my place to judge you for it. My beliefs are what make me comfortable and what I want to believe in though, and I appreciate not being judged for it. I understand Christianity gets a bad rap because some of the crazies associated with it, but I don't like being told I'm stupid for believing in a fake deity, etc. I don't tell atheists that they're stupid for believing in no deity so I like the same treatment.

Pity those that need guidance from a higher being, for they are unable to make their way themselves.
