I cant tell you how hard it is to break these habits! The longer you ride the street, the harder the track is

Dude, I worked on the flowing and relaxing the upper body/hands after my track day, but I refuse to attempt track braking on the street. With my luck I'd find gravel or cold road or something

That's because you crash every time. I haven't crashed yet, knock on wood. I will likely ge the bajesus scared out of me when I do for the first time. I've done it plenty of times on my mtb, but never above about 25.

The first 2 come before your really really comfortable. The 3rd and 4th ones comes only after your really really comfortable. Then a whole new set of issues some up, mostly in relation to the rider interacting with the bike. A mental shift occurs too, instead of blaming the bike, track, tires or something else. The rider starts to blame themselves for mishaps. It's a clue that the rider is starting to understand what is really going on.

Some would say I was fast a few year to early or a few late but hey that's life

My parents never had the means to fund may racing in the first place so luckily I became fast enough to start winning Yamaha contingency $$$ to offset the cost. We would go cherry pick the club races for the contingency then take that $ and blow it all on the AMA nationals. It's a catch 22 though, you need the competition level experience of the Nationals to be able to walk into any track you've never seen before and wipe the floor with the local track pro . But on the other hand you need a ****load of money to race AMA so your stuck club racing in between. It was a ton of fun and I can't imagine anyone including myself given the opportunities I had saying they regretted the experience. Although we did have some good sponsors for discounted product and a ton of help from family and friends we met along the way it was still a fine line of high stakes gambling we had to walk. Eventually the stress on the family as well as racing starting to feel like a job instead of a love made me choose to call it quits before I hated the sport. Then the economy collapsed and most of the manufactures contingency disappeared so in the end I look back a think I was lucky I quit when I did instead of digging a money hole from which I would never be able to feel. That's the short of it and ill never be able the thank the people that helped me along the way enough.

I don't think I've ever blamed the bike. I was too clueless as a newbie and automatically assumed I was the cause of issues, and the more I read and ride and experience, the more I know that it really IS me.

Would some of you recommend getting out to the track as early as possible for a new rider? I've only ridden roughly about 200 miles now. Simple commuting to work on the highway stuff. No canyon run or spirited cruises. Just commuting from home to work, and back to home.

Doubt it'll happen this year for me, but I'm considering hitting an event with the bike in Spring. The way I see it, I track my car, might as well track the bike too. So if it's at Streets or Big Willow at least I would be familiar with the track layout.

Don't take the 250 to big willow lol. I'm a track noob myself but I would say get 1000 street miles before a first track day. Be proficient with shifting and braking

Jiggles heart is in the right place but mileage is not a good indicator if your ready for the track or not. 1000 may be plenty or way to little. Once your very confident in your basic abilities then you are ready.

However.....

Do your homework on the track org you choose to ride with. Some are, we'll just say more "welcoming" to the novice than others.
