Howdy Y'all

Greetings! I've been a long-time lurker here and thought I'd properly introduce myself.

About me and my ninjette:

I took the MSF course in late May 2009 and bought a new Ninja 250 the next weekend. So far, I've put about 1700 miles on the bike and was able to perform the 600 mile service and 3 oil changes myself thanks to information from this site. (Many thanks to Alex and members--this forum is an incredible resource and I've learned a lot from browsing and searching!)

The bike is stock because I had originally planned on selling the ninjette to move up to a larger bike, but I think I'm having more fun riding this "slow" bike fast than I would be riding a fast bike slow on the street. So, now I'm considering keeping the bike and performing intake, jetting, exhaust, and other mods. I have little hands-on mechanical experience, but as an engineer (chemical) I'm fascinated with the science behind various mods and optimizing performance. Between the DIY threads and member support, I'm sure these mods will go well

Here is a photo of me leaving my parent's house in the DFW area for Austin, TX after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanks. The saddlebags are the Nelson Rigg CL-1000s, and the tail bag is the Nelson Rigg CL-150. I would recommend both. My only complaint is that the saddlebags obstruct the view of the rear turn signals unless you are directly behind the bike, but I think that would be true of most saddlebags of this size. They also required some adjustment to minimize the load placed on the turn signals (the tail taper of the new-gen ninjette is sexy, but not really ideal for saddlebags).

Most of my leisurely riding takes place in NW Austin near Lake Travis (the infamous Lime Creek Rd, 2222, Bullick Hollow Rd, Spicewood Springs Rd, etc...). Although, I want to start exploring the roads off of FM1431, north of the lake, this spring.

How 'bout you?

I run Lime Creek too, but I laid it down trying to act like I was in the Isle of Man TT. I should save those runs for the track.

I'm in South Austin, so I ride some twisty country roads in Hays Co., but they are uneven and poorly paved. I like speed runs better than touring, but since the "slide" I think I'm going for slower speeds.

Cool. I've yet to make my way down south, maybe I'll give it a go this spring. Any road recommendations?

I have had a few close calls while doing "inspired" riding after watching IOM TT on TV. Since then, I don't allow myself to ride until at least a couple of hours after watching.

I agree about the wait - I am glad that I went with the 250r over the zx-6r; based solely on the "squid" factor. Even at 36, I tend to push it a little harder than I should. Even with some riding experience, the 250r is fun.

I test rode a '06 636, before buying the 250r, and I got off that thing with adrenaline coursing through my veins and dreams of IOM TT in my head - after the car ride home, I was glad I told the guy I needed to sleep on it. I watch too much racing and such for my own good. The 636 would have been too tempting, all the time, to not ride like a fool. Guess I have little self-control....

There are not many long roads without developement now, so most of the fun rides are on back roads between 290 (Dripping Springs) and IH 35.
